Personally I consider the UK a prison in general....a tiny island that is a 5th the size of BC yet the population of the UK is more than triple the population of Canada....and all those people are stuffed onto a tiny bit of miserable rock just off the coast of France......good luck owning a 1/4 section of land in the UK.....cripes if you have a small vegatable garden you are well off.....and that means you own a home.

With regards to the riots.....the people that are doing it are total fucking scum.....hooligans and looters.....same thing as the "football fans" that cause trouble at the games as well as go to the continent to spread mayhem......bring on the tear gas/rubber bullets/water cannons.....people that smash up stores/burn them down and do the same to citizens homes deserve no mercy/leniency....those people are fucking scum and should not have ANY legal recourse.

The riots started because a father of 4 kids was shot and killed.....shot and killed after he fired upon the police.....a peacefull march happened after the fact and now there has been 4 days of riots......this has nothing to do with what started it all.....it is hooliganism and it needs to be beat down in the most harshest way....no mercy/quarter.....beat the living shit out of people bent on destruction of public/private property as well as those that are looting.

Is this reaction civilized?....fuck no.....and the actions of the mob-rules mentality masses are even more uncivilized......crack some skulls....beat the shit out of the looters...go hell bent for leather...the scum that is like a plague upon society has no libertarian rights as they gave them up by their own actions.

I don't know... I agree that Silky's delivery could probably use improvement (a lot of it) but I can't say I understand how anyone can actually still argue in favor of these foolish wars after years of deaths and when by now, a lot of the lies that got things rolling have been exposed and all of the outrageous abuses committed in the name or patriotic fervor (or more accurately; in the name of capitalist lust) continue to be exposed.

Haven't we already figured out there were never any WMD at all and that of course, that there was never any real evidence or reason to believe of a freakin' connection between Irak and Bin Laden...like none at all? And that a few people made lots of money thanks to those lies? Isn't that old news?

Nevermind that those in power who were the original instigators have been recognized as war criminals and if we're lucky enough (doubtful), they might just be prosecuted... so I'm a bit baffled, quite frankly.

But in any case, isn't this thread about the riots in England anyway?

Here's a different perspective to all of you who never see a need to question authority or the MSM:

The first year of David Cameron’s Conservative–led coalition in Britain was marked by austerity; increased inequality; rapid impoverishment of millions of people; corruption in the media, police and politicians and destruction of public services. Its second year looks set to be marked by massive industrial action and open conflict with the state in the poorest parts of British cities by the people with least to lose. That is the significance of the riots that have been taking place across Britain in early August.

The immediate cause were two actions by the police. The first of these was the killing by armed police officers of Mark Duggan on Thursday August 5 and the subsequent treatment of his family – including their failure to even visit them to inform them of Mark’s death.

A justifiably angry demonstration gathered outside the local police station on Saturday August 7. The police refused to even come out and make a statement. It was the police behaviour then that detonated the riot, a fact that has been omitted from virtually all the subsequent reporting.

As this eyewitness account makes plain the police attacked a 16-year-old girl with batons. This video clip [see below] captures something of the violence of the police behaviour. It was virtually inevitable that aggression of that sort would provoke a paroxysm of rage among the local community.

Reports from other parts of the country tell similar stories, each with their own twist but with the common theme – in the East London borough of Hackney and in Birmingham in the West Midlands for example.

There are reports of increased harassment of young people just for being on the streets at any time of day, including the extensive use of the notorious stop and search powers which are deeply hated by the black community, especially young black men against whom they are generally targeted. Black people are 26 times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people.

Unusually the Independent Police Complaints Commission has moved quite quickly in the case of Mark Duggan, reporting on August 9 that its initial ballistics report showed that he had not fired at police officers, giving the lie to rumours that had been spread in the media that the police were acting in self-defence. However no one has any confidence that justice will be done in this case – there is a long history of deaths at the hands of the police but not one single officer has ever been prosecuted.

...

Last month the local Tottenham MP David Lammy demanded government action to deal with a 10% rise in unemployment in his constituency that now has 10,514 people seeking work. Local residents have been saying in interviews that thousands of people in their late 20’s have never been able to find a job. It’s no surprise then that the shops selling designer sportswear, mobile phones and state of the art TVs and MP3 players are being looted by people who know that they’ll never earn enough to buy these things.

The capitalists can’t have it both ways. On one hand they say you need these things for status and to feel fulfilled and on the other most of the jobs on offer pay poverty wages on short-term contracts where they exist at all.

By contrast the very rich have never had it so good in living memory. The High Pay Commission reported on August 8 that executives in FTSE 100 companies received average annual pensions worth around £175,000 (US$ 285,000). The average British pension is a paltry £5,860 (US$ 9,550) and this government want to make working people poorer still. At the same time they are hell bent on transferring vast sums of money to the 300,000 people who pay the top rate of 50% tax on earnings over £150 000 (US$ 245,000) per year. London Mayor Boris Johnson has called for it to be scrapped and his millionaire chum George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer has said he wants to get rid of it.

No wonder that many have made the point that these are the real looters, the real criminals. One letter in yesterdays Guardian newspaper put it thus: The rioters are only doing to the high street what the bankers did to the country. Unlike the bankers, the rioters will no doubt be held to account. Left-wing Labour MP John McDonnell wrote in the same paper: ["]We are reaping what has been sown over the last three decades of creating a grotesquely unequal society with an ethos of grab as much as you can by any means. A society of looters created with MPs and their expenses, bankers and their bonuses, tax-evading corporations, hacking journalists, bribe-taking police officers, and now a group of alienated kids are seizing their chance…”.

I seriously wonder how this thread got skewed/slanted to war as well as the anti-war perspective......the riots in the UK are just that....riots being done by a bunch of hooligans.....all of them bent on mindless destruction.....I sure as hell hope that every single motherfucker that trashed public/private property as well as looted gets the blunt end of a police baton as well as judicial proceedings.

We don't have cameras on every lamp post, transit station and public space the way they do in England. With any luck, we never will have.

As the British proved with the Subway bombers and now the riots, they have the ability to track a person from the crime right back to their home. All with cameras controlled by the police.

What we have here is a lot of cellphone pictures and video where much of it can't even be traced back to the person that recorded the images.

Are you suggesting that we should just let the images convict the person? Or should we actually require a witness to testify to the providence of the image in court?
From the last update I heard on AM 660 news today whilst working the police have arrested over 1100 and charged over 600.....with more charges pending of course.

Some of the voiceclips I heard disgusted me such as a young guy who could not get a job decided to ransack/loot the business's shops that turned him down for a job....guess if they had hired him they would have eventually fired him for internal theft....nothing but thugs and thieves.

Best part is that some are already doing time for the crime................here we're still investigating, and yes alin, I realize there is the pictures issue, but when people confess at least go through the motions.
