Yeah, I also thought about motives and content of that announcement. They chose not to do a verifiable charity work, like donating to a registered Canadian charity who could publicly list LL as their major donors.

The logistics of their alleged action is also questionable. How would European owners of LL come into possession of winter coats in various Canadian cities? There was no prior hint they were collecting such items, in fact they made an impression they have no physical presence in Canada.

To be fair, I don't expect LL to have a registered Canadian company or want to disclose individuals working for them in Canada. Yet, it shouldn't be a problem to donate through somebody in Canada who'd ask the charity to give a public credit to LL.
Just because LL gets paid in bitcoin converted to Euros doesn't necessarily mean they're owned and run by Europeans. It could simply be a Canadian owner operating through a European country to avoid prosecution under Canadian law.

As for the continued mis-information about the laws in Canada, it as a criminal offence to either buy or sell sexual services in Canada. The seller is immune to prosecution but they still commit a criminal offence. This deprives sex workers of the human rights argument that they should be able to engage safely in a lawful activity. Selling sexual services is presently not a lawful activity. The Harper government may have been corrupt but is was also smart/devious.
Thanks for the clarification on the current Canadian law, Treveller. So what you are saying is that under Canadian law it is still illegal for a person to sell sexual services but they are simply immune from prosecution. This is how the sneaky Harper government thought they could avoid legal challenges to the law from men asking why it was illegal to buy sex but legal to sell it. Under the law it is actually still illegal to do either, so technically there is no inequality between buyer and seller. They were devious weren't they?

Thanks to everyone else who has contributed to this thread. A very informative and interesting read.

Good point. Though Peter MacKay didn't look smart or devious when he was announcing the new law. A "dumb fuck" was my exact thought when he said the following on that news conference in 2014:

"Some prostitutes we know are younger than 18 years of age. If they are in the presence of one another at three o'clock in the morning and are selling sexual services, they would be subject to arrest.… They're selling it in presence of a minor". (Quoted from CBC).

I'm still shaking my head about that level of stupidity. How could he possibly think he's projecting an image of protecting underage girls? He brought up that example himself, it wasn't an answer to a tricky question or anything.

Just curious... but, between PERB, Twitter, and Tryst .
Is LeoList even relevant anymore ?

When I started these Adventures, Craigslist was the go to Avenue .
Then somehow I came across PERB, and really after that the others were only used as a Scapegoat, for how I came across their Ad . Now, I don't think it matters, if You introduce yourself respectfully through the point of Contact .

Mr Q.
LL is still "viable" if you're smart enough to sift through the fake ads; but yeah, it's a lot of hassle to navigate through it. Never been a victim of a scam quite yet. Most of the SPs I met through LL have been legit, it just takes too much research and cross-checking through PERB, which is problematic for clients who think their their little-head.

Twitter (and social media) isn't all that great either. Not a lot of discretion for starters. But like LL it's hard to navigate through it because SPs you're following are constantly re-tweeting about other SPs who aren't even around your location, while you're just trying to follow the SPs you are interested in. (I mean, I want to follow Vancouver escorts, why would I care about someone in Florida? Why re-tweet what they say?) And don't get me wrong, I love a lady with a good head on her shoulders, but they often use their profile as a soap-box explaining the woes of sex work, as opposed to shilling their brand. Kind of a turn-off when the very women willing to sell services to you are also saying "men are icky pigs who don't know how to do e-transfers" then see a slough of other people start re-tweeting instances of how men are so misogynistic...then it's like, great I might be the only 1 man out of 10 who isn't an asshole, and I'm going to walk into her room as she thinks what a scumbag I must be, because the other 9 kept calling her a whore. ...so why bother?

Tryst is a cool site that I just started to shop around in. I like the idea that they take better care to validate SP's profiles (if true). But it's a new site, not a lot of ads for my location. As well, not really quite structured yet. Some features are still in beta; and clients can't edit the profile they were asked to create when you sign up. I'm sure once they iron it out, it could be the most viable escort site on the net. But it's too new to tell, atm. Until then, LL is still on the menu.

I hadn't thought of the way criminalizing both buyer and seller undermines the lack of symmetry legal challenge. Good point.

An sp I know in Nanaimo says it costs her just under $7 to post an advert on LL, so she may do it every few days or a bit more often at times, pending on response rate.
