This seems to have been around for quite a while: http://www.ashleymadison.com/ but has anyone used it? If yes what was your experience? Did you hook up with someone? This interesting blog post lead me to the site (http://kottke.org/10/07/thoughts-of-infidelity-follow-mothers-day):

Mother's Day makes wives want to cheat on their husbands. Female sign-ups soared on ashleymadison.com (a dating site for married people) on the day after Mother's Day.

31,427 women signed up for AshleyMadison.com yesterday -- which is over ten times the average number of women who typically sign up on any given Monday.

The day after Valentine's Day is even busier on the site.

I lasted about 6 months on Ashley Madison a couple of years ago. Rarely would my messages to female participants receive any response. Of the 2 ladies who did respond favorably , both seemed too much interested in leaving their current partners if a better alternative presented itself. The idea of a clandestine affair to relieve excess sexual energy did not appear to enter into the equation. As this became clear, my interest in the site began to wane. I have not been back.

I had/have an account there. I think it still has credits on it but they probably expired by now..which is fine. It's a waste of money. What I found is that women would send me a message that said something about them wanting to communicate with me but could I send them a message because they had a freebie account. I'd reply and no answer.
Yes that is why pay hook up sites never work. There was an analysis on OKCupid's blog about this, the chances of you meeting someone there is close to zero.

with enough people joined up eventually there will be success somewhere but that does not necessarily indicate that the average person will succeed.

It depends.

If you are drop dead gorgeous with fantastic teeth - it may work for you.

But most of these sites (see adult friend finder) are set up to lure men to set up accounts - that's how they make their money. Women generally are too cheap to buy anything, never mind an account on a dating site.

The problem with online is that women get 100's of letters a day (especially the good looking ones) while men get 2 or 3... maybe less. I am decent looking so I usually get a couple a day.

Plus you have to remember most women look at these sites as "window shopping" or as a distraction - something to browse through with a g/f and have a giggle with the hopes of finding that one guy that makes them go "wow".

Where I think men tend to want to have a little fun in the search for the one.

My experience has been that the pay sites are not any better than the free sites.

So I stay away from them.

I've seen good things come about from OK Cupid.

A female friend of mine in her mid-20s dated a guy she met on there, and now they are married.

A male friend of mine in his late-20s is dating a woman he met on there, and they've been happily dating for about a year now. They are both previously divorced and really enjoying being in a relatively committed, but relaxed relationship where both of them have no interest in getting married.

OKCupid's secret is that unlike other sites everything is completely free. oktrends (OKCupid's blog) posted a detailed analysis assessing Match.com and eHarmony's performance based on the numbers they themselves announce. I give you the conclusions:

It turns out you are 12.4 times more likely to get married this year if you don't subscribe to Match.com.
eHarmony fails at least 93.8% of the time.
I highly recommend you read the entire blog post on why the pay sites are ripping off their customers. It is worth your time if you are interested in this industry: http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/2010/04/07/why-you-should-never-pay-for-online-dating/

I know a few people who are married or engaged who met on eharmony. The trick with that site seems to be that if you are looking for someone in your league, you will do well but forget about moving up a notch or two.

Everyone I know who had any luck with online dating was either stunningly beautiful or handsome and in awesome shape, or was plain and happy with someone else who was equally plain.

Ashley Madison is a huge waste of time in my experience. Want to meet women? Turn off your computer and go meet women. Join yoga, take up bowling, hang out at Starbucks. Or just hire hot young women to suck your cock. Shortest distance between two points is a toll road.
