Today I'll be laying a wreath on behalf of and in honour of my Dad who in 1942 as a 16 year old joined the Canadian Merchant Navy. It will be all the more memorable as he passed on November 1 in his 85th year.

Take a moment to remember all those who put themselves in harms way to secure the freedoms we sometimes take for granted

Peace
Mr Green

On our way back from their swimming lessons, my grandsons and I stopped for brunch at A&W where they had poppies for sale. I gave them some change and we all bought a poppy. When we got back in the car, the youngest asked why I had so many poppies pinned in the fabric of the car roof.

I said there were two reasons:
  1. I keep losing them and I like to have a spare
  2. I keep them to remind me every day of the thousands of young men laying in poppy covered fields, who died to protect me and mine.

Would I have had the courage to do what they did?

I don't know, I hope so.

Take 2 minutes to stand and silently reflect and honour their sacrifice.

Well put gentlemen, I think we should also take time to remember the 133 Canadians who have died in Afghanistan!
