I think he can do anything he wants to do. It is a free contry and he is allowed to do this as a FREE Agent! I would burn down Lion Gate bridge for $100 million! Upgrade my favrite Asain Sp to Adriana or Holy Talor!

Are you saying that Wade's salary doesn't count against the salary cap? What's this "Larry Bird rule"?
I'm not that "in tune" with Wade's contact situation, so I don't know if he qualifies for the "Larry Bird Rule", that's just an uninformed guess on my part, since he was a free agent, and he completed his contract with the Miami Heat.

The "Larry Bird Rule" aka "qualified free agent rule" is one of several exemptions in the NBA salary cap. Under this rule, if a player fulfills his contract (with a minimum 3 years), the team he was just under contract to, can re-sign him (for up to the maximum salary allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, for maximum of 6 years) and his salary will not count towards the team's salary cap.

So called the "Larry Bird Rule" because the Boston Celtics used the rule for the first time, to re-sign Larry Bird in the 1980s.

This isn't quite right. His salary still counts towards the team's salary cap. The Larry Bird rule allows a team to re-sign their own free agent (assuming they have the "Bird rights" - i.e. played with the team for at least 3 years, as you said) and exceed the salary cap with that signing. For example, if the cap were 50 million and a team had players under contract totalling 48 million, then they could resign their own free agent that they have Bird rights to for up to whatever the max is for that particular player - so could re-sign someone for say 10 million to bring their total to 58 million, which is over the cap. They could not sign a free agent from another team for that amount, since they only have 2 million to work with. This is why teams often sign their own free agents last, since they can exceed the cap when they sign.

So in this instance, the Bird rule doesn't really apply since re-signing Wade does not put them over the cap because they have so much to work with.

I'm not even a basketball fan, but why does this whole interview/press report take an hour? If he can't keep his mouth shut regarding his destination then he should just give a short 10 minute press conference and be done with it. Not tease everyone and waste their time...

Eh, I'd rather watch baseball... at least the Yankees didn't get Lee...

Hopefully the Miami Heats won't be needing 3 basketballs every time they play. Might be a humbling experience for one or two of the Big 3 if they wanna win. Like what the GM Otis Smith said; " someone's only gonna be taking 7 shots ".

If Miami doesn't get a real center, Dwight Howard is just gonna eat them alive inside the paint like what he did against Cleveland 2 seasons ago which made the latter acquire SHAQ.

Smart-ass Derek Fisher went to Miami to play leverage knowing that the Heats didn't have cap space and came back to LA without any contract. Laker's oblige by giving him a 3 year deal. Probably just went to Miami to have Joe's Stone Crab. :) :)

I just pity the New Jersey Nets. With all the cap space they have and the deep wallet of their new Russian billionaire owner and Jay-Z, they ended up with ex-Laker Jordan Farmar and Travis Outlaw. They have a great chance of getting the number one spot again, in the NBA Draft. :) The Russian owner is probably wondering what he got himself into. Could have been better if he bought a soccer team instead like Arsenal. Well, at least with the new players, the Nets will definitely win more than 12 games next season, 18? 20? :) :)

Now Chris Paul is trying to pull his own version of a Big 3 with Carmelo Anthony to hopefully join newly-signed Amare in the Big Apple. Looks like a long shot but that's what they said about Lebron, Bosh, and Wade joining forces in South Beach months back. For me, its bad for the NBA as others will follow suit and they would end up with about 7 to 10 teams with Big 3's and the rest a developmental league. :)

After the uproar in Miami is finish, I still go for the LA Lakers to repeat this year. The recent off season additions of Matt Barnes, Steve Blake, and Theo Ratliff joining defensive stalwarts Ron Artest and Kobe Bryant has even made the team more tenacious defensively. The most formidable front line and deepest bench in the league right now. The upcoming season looks like an even better one for Kobe as GM Mitch Kupchak already signed most players giving the Laker's MVP a hard time from Artest to Barnes with the exception of Raja Bell who they also tried to sign.

It's still cool to see a new winning team in South Beach for years to come. Miami is still football country though. However, the Miami Heats do have the hottest cheerleaders in the league. :) :)

The Showtime Lakers starts the NBA Season 7-0. Such a formidable line-up. While OKC's Kevin Durant is having an MVP start as well. Like the current NBA slogan, " Where Amazing Happens ". :) :)
