Hi guys, I've just had my 28th birthday! As great as it was it was also a kick in the ass! :) I've been working as a travelling girl for many years and at last have made Vancouver my permanent home! A few of you may have seen me during my travels here, but have kept myself relatively below the radar here as I wanted to protect my identity after realizing what a small town it is! But why I post is that I am looking for a new employment and was wondering if any of you had any helpful suggestions or employment opps outside of the usual ;). I don't have much experience(why this is aggitating for me) in "normal" employment but I do have a Bachelor of Commerce and a Tesl, some screenwriting classes. I love creativity. I am a creative conservative lol. My hours could be flexible but no weekends. I also need a decent wage.. how hard is it to go from $250/hr to $12!! I am bright, well groomed and mannered.. I have stellar customer service hehe. Thank you all in advance!
J.

A young woman I know works on cruise ships, organizing activities for the passengers. The money isn't big, but expenses are covered. It could be one way to get some "straight" job experience on your resume, making it easier to move on to other things.

Oh, and Happy Birthday!

Job Opportunities!!

2 words... "Real Estate!!!"

Being a Realtor gives you the chance to greatly exceed making "only" $250/hr.
You would, however, normally have to work some of your weekend... but most Real Estate firms could care less about work experience and are more interested in personality.

Take the Real Estate course and talk to some of the Realty companies.

Other sales jobs would also work (eg. Automotive) but the money just isn't there.

As an employer, i wonder what you have as work experience in between your commerce degree and now? Why not start off as a waitress or barista or something? slowly work your way up to a manager or something. i know that there's a pretty big shortage in the retail and hospitality industry.

good luck

And a hot young thing can do really well in tips. If she has a good attitude and flashes a bit of cleavage, even more.

You have earned $250/hr and you're on a prostitution message board asking for help on finding employment? You want to earn similarly but not work weekends?

Are you fucking stupid or what?

I can't work weekends.. I have a child and if I work weekends I don't want to miss those days with her as she's school age now another reason why I am stepping out as little ears pick up on more and more. I didn't say similarily in wage at all, I just want to earn a respectable wage, and right now earning $12/hr wouldn't cover the bills. But thank you for the input!! Why are you so angry anyways? I wasn't asking for a handout I was just asking for suggestions, and yeah I admit I wasn't too smart in not having an exit strategy, but I was good at what I did, and if someone took your biggest skill in life away from you and what you knew the best, wouldn't you wonder a little about what to do next?
On a side note thnx to the rest of you that actually had something helpful to say!
xoxo

new career

is school an option?

In demand positions with good wages right now: anything to do with the medical field

a one year course can get you an LPN designation, and the starting wages are good - 25-27/hr.

a 2-3 year course can get you a Radiologist or rad tech designation - excellent work, good money - 30-40/hr range.

if school is not an option - waitressing can be lucrative, at the right place. Either food or liquor. But those jobs necessitate evening and weekend work.
I would recommend food service at the best restaurant that will hire you. The tips at places like Gotham or Mortons are killer, if you are good.

With a BCom, perhaps government service? Unionized positions, good benefits, especially if you have children. Lots of different entities - Assessment Authority, ICBC, differing Ministries.

good luck

You should be able to earn $4000/mo. with a BComm degree. That is more than a living wage, and enough to support 1 child.

M.

I would suggest the same thing, but it seems like every lady is doing the Real Estate.

My advice is to find something you really enjoy doing and work out a way to make money at it. You seem like a smart girl and your experience being an escort I am sure has given you experience in areas you might not have realized. To make the same level of income as before I don't suggest to try looking to work for someone else.

One idea that comes to mind is to write a story or movie about your life experiences. If you want to talk about it more and maybe some other ideas, your more then welcome to PM me.

Thanks

without experience, $4k a month would be tough to find. heck, it took me 10 years out of school, and i was only making $4k a month. i agree, try to get into a higher end restaurant where the tips would be better. But without the proper experience, a livable salary to support a child would be tough. you may find it easier to get an office job paying $12/hr (approx $24k/yr) and work part time as an sp until you can move up to a better livable salary to raise a kid.

else....marry a rich guy.

The problem with real estate is it takes you years to get established and the attrition rate in the first one to three years is terrible.

Come over to Alberta... Anyone here can make $25 to $30/hour in a heartbeat - with half a brain even more... that's what front-end reception staff makes right now... And all the Oil-co's are dying for staff!

That or a B-Comm can get you into a lot of different gigs. Would it be in promotions, marketing, advertising, research or business development.

Try monster.ca, workopolis.ca and working.com to get the job listings. Get a resume together (yes... you can claim that you are a "returning to work" mom...) and get out there!

Good luck!

P.S. I wasn't kidding about moving to Alberta - we'd love to have you here!

You have to decide what your interests are and take it from there. I would suggest to contact an employment agency and work as a temp to get a feel of what is best suited for your knowledge. A good place to start is 'Head Hunters'. I know many people who have been placed in jobs by this agency. I believe they also run 'monster.ca'; the employment website.

Good Luck.

A job???

Personally, I think getting a JOB is the worst thing one can do. First, it will consume more than 8 hours a day, more like 11 hours. Second, your taxed to the max. And, third, your life is no longer your own.

With the same effort and money it takes to find a job I think one is better off developing what they love doing into a commodity. Think internet and downloads - there is a market (worldwide) for everything and anything.

This is what I do (among other less financially stable, but very enriching things), my life is my own, I pay minimal taxes (corporate rate) and live abroad for months at a time while still earning some pretty decent coin (i.e., well over $1,000 a day on average).

Research and a well developed business plan is key.

$12/hr or even $60/hr blows.

Well now you have my interest. What internet download products make you $1000 per day on average?

It would also be difficult to be a real estate agent who doesn't want to work weekends. How many people would list with an agent who won't show their house on a weekend.

Janelle27,

My advice, well you should have moved to Alberta. Better chances of earning $12.00 an hour there than here.

Sorry GBM, but being specific would compromise my anonymity here. But $1,000/day average is not that big a deal. What do you think Adobe pulls down each and every minute? I don't know the answer but I'll bet it makes a nice 'Ka-ching" sound - assuming they're profitable at the end of the day. Or Amazon's new Unbox program.

It's pretty hard to make $$'s selling hard goods on the 'net, soft goods (intellectual property) is the way to go.
