Seeing a lot of online discussion about the Leaving Neverland documentary, and I'm trying to understand why the accusations have such traction now when they didn't before?

Don't get me wrong... I believed the accusations the first time years ago. This whole notion of him being some sort of innocent perpetual Peter Pan "man child" never sounded plausible to me. I had a cousin with a mental disability that kept his mental age to be child like, but the hormones were still there. He had to learn what was appropriate. On the other hand Jackson had enablers. No one told him no, and he had no such excuse.

Even if his family weren't enablers the family's denial is laughable: what would most people know about the kinks of their quite-a-bit-younger siblings?

The mental gymnastics of his supporters is astounding. I'm trying to decide if the parents of the victims portrayed in the documentary knowingly sold out their own flesh and blood or were blinded by the same idol-driven cognitive dissonance as the fans. Odds are they just didn't want to think about it too much for fear of ruining a good thing.

Still who the hell leaves their 7 year old in the company of an adult man for five days and skips out of state when they only met him 48 hours before?

The whole thing is baffling. The parents then. The broad denial then. The remaining denial now...

I'm glad the victims are making progress, finally. It's just too bad it's too late for justice.

Why the surprise? Catholic church is still getting away with it.

I've come to realise people rarely understand what I'm trying to say. :)

The surprise isn't that he got away with it. It's that in the 90s and 2000s he did, but in 2019 the opinion has flipped. What changed? There isn't new evidence, and he's been dead a whole decade so there aren't any new victims.

I know the first instinct will be to say it's a product of #metoo, but then that's another example of the same question.

I think lots of people put his star power before the allegations. People really didn't want to have their idol be accused let alone investigated. Besides like the Catholic Church, nobody wanted to accuse a priest or have their child go through the legal system. That's why children are prayed upon because chances are they may keep quiet about it and the child feels ashamed rather than wanting justice.

Harvey Weinstein to me was the watershed moment and it just took a few brave women to step forward. Now there are a lot of men who have been outed for their behaviour or have come forward admitting to the sexual harassment.

I've never hesitated to sympathize with the victims of other celebs, cause at the end when there are that many speaking up they can't all be lying (even if there's a chance that some may be fabricating their story in hopes of capitalizing), but in this case MJ is dead. He's been dead for nearly a decade and so if they all didn't speak up while he was still alive, why did they take so much longer after his death to "regroup" and speak up? I'm not victim blaming here, but this is one case that doesn't add up. I say this as someone who never cared for MJ, nor his music, and even myself found him kind of creepy... but "vibes" was never enough to go by, but victim testimonies a decade after death doesn't add up either. Whatever the case, I hope if these stories are in fact true that the victims now find peace in all this.

lukom, if you think it doesn't add up you're not trying very hard. They say in the documentary itself what triggered the timing. These guys had sons of their own and as the kids got closer to the age they were when the abuse happened, it shifted their perspective. One said basically he realised that as a dad if someone had done to his son what had been done to him, he'd want to kill the guy. He started having persistent nightmares about it happening to his child. So it was hard to reconcile their own denial after that. That's when they started admitttng it to their family and seeking therapy. It's also a known thing that male victims of abuse take even longer on average than females to admit what was done to them. 20 years isn't unusual. Additionally, after the death of their abuser, the intimidation factor can lessen somewhat.

By the way one of these guys was a reknowned choreographer for N Sync and Brittany Spears. Not exactly a grifting nobody.

All I can say is that I think Micheal Jackson had some deep serious mental issues.Be it the child abuse or how he had himself essentially mutilated via cosmetic surgery.Take a look at the Thriller album cover and compare that what he looked like
when he passed away and the difference is quite frankly astonishing.

Macdonald's is coming out with a new burger: the Michael Jackson. It's a 50 year old piece of meat, stuffed into 2 fresh buns.
