Leaving Las Vegas

Just finished watching Leaving Las Vegas on IFC. The only other time I've seen it was when it first came out, at least 5 or 6 years ago. Pretty sad movie. It takes the pooner/provider relationship a bit far. Has anyone else seen it? I heard it was a true story. Can anyone confirm this?

I've seen it. Pretty grim movie. I've heard it is "based on a true story". Which to me means they changed some details for drama, and so that they don't have to pay anyone royalties.
