After getting an ingrown infected pube from shaving... I figured what better place to ask about local hair removal places than on perb! What have peoples experiences been like? After a few treatments do they still come back? How much maintence is required? How long does it hurt for? If i'm already shaving and the hair is fairly short do i want to grow it out for them to zap it or does the length not really make much difference?

Ditch the idea.

IMHO, it is a bad idea to begin with. Shaving is for chicks, and if I had my way, they wouldn't do it either.

The whole thing is a corporate brainwash scheme by Gillette, et al---a simple ploy to sell more razors and take your cash.

Remember the good old days when after a half hr. of hard work you finally made it to that wonderful soft fuzzy little prize down there? Oh my, how wonderful to pet that little kitten!!

Remember the story of Samson and that bitch, Delilah?

Laser hair removal works by sending a pulse of light into the root of each hair follicle. The melanin in the hair follicle absorbs the light. When enough light is absorbed by the hair, it is burnt away and destroyed. At any one time, only about 15% of your hair is in the active phase where it's producing melanin. Therefore you will need at least 6-8 treatments. Even at that, you don't get 100% removal of hair. The hair, though, will be a lot finer.

When you get treated, you have to shave all the hair, leaving just the roots. Any hair on the surface of the skin will absorb the light, making the treatment ineffective. Any pain should go away a few hours after the treatment. Aloe vera gels will help reduce the pain and cool off the skin after treatments.

There are tons of places that will do it now. I recommend sticking with a place that specializes in hair removal and has a lot of experience with guys. A lot of places seem to concentrate on woman. I would also avoid the places that advertise cheap prices. A couple of places I know that have a lot of experience treating men are Dermal Laser and Urban Body Laser. You should be able to Google their names or find their ads in the Georgia Straight.

Both my boyfriend and I are getting laser hair removal on our pubic area. It hurts like hell for the 15 minutes the treatment is being done (at least for me - pain varies person to person) and then it doesn't hurt at all. There is a numbing cream they sell that helps with the pain too.

Urban body Laser was having a special after the last Taboo show where you buy 1 year of treatments (for one area) and get the 2nd year free. We were told that most people are free of hair after a year of treatments (the treatments are on a schedule) but the second year is a good idea just in case it doesn't get everything in that time. Apparently it is very unlikely we will have hair after the 2nd year. After the third treatment we both noticed a very big difference - about half (or more) of the hair was gone.

It cost us each about $1000 for the two years (one year and one year free) but they have payment plans.

Personally I love that my boyfriend is doing this with me - it makes going down on him that much more enjoyable!

Also, as mentioned above, you need to be completely clean shaven before your appointment - so don't worry about 'growing out.'

I've been getting laser for the past six months at a very nice and well price "medispa" called Hummingbird. I initially got a gift certificate and was sceptical because of the low prices...but after 5 underarm treatments I only have 5 or so hairs left:)

The level of pain varies from person to person but treatments usually last a short time and in my personal opinion it hurts a LOT less than waxing.

I had a few laser hair removal sessions on my cooch... And I guess I went to the wrong place, because it made me grow MORE hair FASTER. It is obvious when I shave the whole thing, because the part that I didn't get done grows back nice and slow and normal... and the rest, that did get the laser treatment grows and it MEANS IT! More hair, growing faster...like my pubic area is trying to spite me for wanting to change it. I was excited in the beginning, and got my mom a gift certificate to get a couple hairs zapped off her lip, but I told her not to do it... I didn't want her to look like Tom Selleck!!

I was told there are special lasers for blondes? Have any blondes on the board had any success with them?

OK, I can take a hell of a lot of pain, but excuse me if I don't take the word of someone who deals with pain for a living. I have a feeling that MJ can block out a hell of a lot more than the average perbite ;)

It's not that painful, certainly not as bad as tattoo removal, man that hurts!

I had the same reaction as Mia only it was my back(don't have a cooch). Worse now than it ever was, hate to think what would happen to the other areas. I stick to a trimmer and razor now.

I've been looking into this recently and I've been really wary because I have dark skin, I tried a few laser hair treatments back when it was all still new and the lasers burnt my skin leaving me with scabs and some light scarring in some areas that eventually went away, but the hair grew back thicker.

I'm told the DEKA treatment systems are good for those with dark skin and by dark i don't mean I light tan, I mean like *dark*. It's always best to ask alot of questions about the salon you're interested in getting treated at, ask what system they use, then go home and do as much research on it as you can.

Did you do the tattoo removal thing??? Was it the lazer removal? If you don't mind, can you tell me about the results? The pain I can deal with more than the pain of keeping my first tattoo :p I want to finish my sleeve with a shoulder/chest piece, but it wouldn't look right as a cover-up over the existing, "What I had the money for at the time" tattoo ;)

Oh yeah! That too...

I forgot to mention, that they got too close to my tattoo and zapped a piece of it off! Boo hiss...

I went to Diva something in that building at Shelbourne and Mackenzie. Where did you go, Violet?

Yeah laser removal, takes about 10 to 15 treatments with gradual increase of intensity. I need a few more appointments but even after 5 times it is pretty much obscured and you can't tell what it was anymore. Mine was a 16 year old teenager mistake, in my fuck the world phase.

I'm not sure how other technicians handle the fees. My clinic takes most of the money up front. After the first treatment I understood why, it hurts like a mother and some people just never go back again. They have creams to numb the area but I prefer the pain, it's my way of punishing myself for doing something so stupid. Honestly though, if I had to do it over I would have added to it or covered it. The results are good though, no scarring or anything and it will look good as new when I'm all finished. :)

That wouldn't be the lovely star near your cooch would it? They give you any reimbursement or are mistakes just part of the deal?

I've already spent thousands on what I have, so not paying the extra to make sure it's finished properly would be dumb on my part. The piece I need removed is on my deltoid, thank god, cuz it's probably the least painful spot on the arm to have to fuck with. The cream that you're talking about is a joke, so I think I'll pas on that. Well, guess I should look into a consultation. Thanks for the info bro

A very good idea to have a consult. I was wondering how an area where a tattoo was removed would be for adding another. Probably not a problem but something to ask.

I have a question for you...you're bald right. how do you cover the lobotomy scar, or do they just suck it out with liposuction now? haha JK :D

I don't know, doesn't your underwear cover yours? :D I'll let you know what they say about tattooing the removal spot. I'm guessing there would have to be quite a wait time to let all of the layers of skin heal.

It usually takes about a week for a treatment to heal, I think they recommend 2 weeks between treatments. Not sure about how long before you can ink it again.

How did you know about my penis reduction? whoops better keep this out of the latrine, we were warned!
