Trying to pick which hotel to stay at in Vegas...still undecided...anyone recommend one that doesnt have a "stuffy" feel to it, like the Bellagio

I like Mandalay Bay, but it's at the far end of the strip...

I like the Westin. It is reasonably priced, within walking distance of the strip (one block removed) near the Bellagio and Hard Rock, it has a small casino which limits the crowds. Being a Westin the rooms are superb.

The author of that site provides a highly readable, local's rundown on the various hotels in Vegas.

I like to stay at Bill's Gambling Hall, between Bally's and the Flamingo. But its not a luxury hotel by any means, and I would not take a woman there (rooms not fancy/romantic enough, although they are clean and quiet). Bills' has a killer location, a great sports book, and amazing steak and eggs.

Treasure Island is not stuffy at all, and again while it is not a luxury hotel, its clean and well-located. Same can be said for Paris Paris and for New York New York. All are "middle-class" hotels.

It really depends on what you do when you are there.
I like to move around from place to place, so like to stay central.
Ballys or Flamingo are great if you want to go cheap.
Caesars is the best around. Barbary coast is fun too.

Next time I'm down I am staying at the metropolitan.
Got a deal, and the pictures look really nice

Venetian is very nice as is Bellagio.

If you want to hang out with a youngish crowd then Planet Hollywood is good for partying :D
I stayed there for a conference and it was non stop party.

Been many times, like the Bellagio and Encore. Just dropped in around the opening of the Cosmopolitan and it was a gorgeous place, didn't stay there.

The Encore is amazing!!!! I will only stay there from now on. So beautiful. Have a great time in the city of sin!
I've stayed at Encore and agree wholheartidly that it rocks.
Stayed at the Venetian too which is pretty nice.

Depends on your age and type of crowd you like to be around. Hard Rock has a funky atmosphere.

For deals check out travelzoo.com

Enjoy!

I've stayed at Bellagio, Mirage, Wynn, PH, TI, Caesars and Venetian. Last few trips have stayed at the Westgate Towers at PH (LIsted as PH Towers). These rooms are nicer than the Wynn at half the cost. Make sure u upgrade to the 1 bedroom suites when u check in. It's like an extra $20 a nite but well worth it. It can easily sleep 10 people. 4 flatscreen tv's... 1 projection HD TV... full kitchen... nice trendy decor... All in it was about $110 a nite the last few trips... may have gone up a bit. This tower just opened last year so everything is brand new. And there is a hot blondie who works at the lobby bar. Super friendly and even joined us for drinks one nite after her shift.

Does nobody ever go downtown? That is where the original LV is located. Binion's Horseshoe was the original home of the WSOP. In the very early 2000's I attended the final session for two straight years. back then you could just walk in and take a seat and watch the action. Now it is too upscale for my tastes.

Also, IMHO, the number one attracion in all of LV nobody ever talks about is the "Fremont Street Experience". Every hour on the hour on the main street...and it is free.

Google it and check out the Kiss, Las Vegas, America, Aquarius, American Pie, and Viva Vison videos.

Ya I agree, FWIW.

Pass on the Luxor though. Too far from center strip.
Stayed at the LUXOR twice...looking for something different. No complaints though...

Isn't Freemount just a bunch of lights on a ceiling with music? If so, doesn't sound that exciting to me...

No, the freemount show is pretty fun to watch. Plus all the people out there make it fun too.
I do want to stay there again this time at the Nugget, new rush tower looks nice.

Stayed at the Plaza my only time staying in old Vegas. It had a view from the window you could watch the show from, that was cool. But the hotel sucked. It was also about a 90 minute wait for check in.

Just book a room at Caesars and you will enjoy it there, book a cheaper room and pull the ole $20 sandwich. It actually does work.

From some random website I googled, obviously aimed at suckers who believe anything they read on the internet, then insist it happened to them and it DOES WORK (lol):

"There is no secret handshake, sign or password. When you go to the front desk to check into a hotel, they will ask for a credit card, driver's license or passport. Slip a $20 bill between or under your ID and credit card. Ask the clerk if there are any complimentary upgrades available."

Apprently, most Las Vegas clerks know to return the money to you if they can't give you an upgrade. Hey...it works for bcneil.....
