Larry & Willy Walk On JACK FM Vancouver

On Wednesday, June 27th, our longtime newsman Kerry Marshall was fired by Jack management.
On the same day we were presented with a list of conditions laying out revisions to our broadcast and alterations to our contract that we found unacceptable . As such, we were informed we would no longer be presenting the JACK Morning Show.

In recent days we have been approached by Jack Management to try to temper the tone of the situation by suggesting to you that we agreed to go our separate ways in a happy, mutual decision. This is entirely untrue, and we would be lying if we were to say otherwise.

These events were brought on by decisions made by Jack management and our responses to them.

The result? We are no longer associated with Jack Fm .

We are however very excited about plans to return to Vancouver radio in the fall of next year !

Thank you for all your support through this interesting time and for letting us come into your mornings for so many years !

Larry and Willy

Radio Vet Red Robinson | Larry & Willy

I have known for some time that Larry & Willy were out at JACK FM but out of respect for the two men and the radio station I held back. It would have jeopardized their contract situation. Now that it is resolved we must understand that radio is a business.

The owners look upon each outlet as a commodity to bring greater returns for shareholders. Therefore, ratings and sales are unimportant. It is the shareholders who must be satisfied. Many think radio stations live for the ratings results, but the truth is they only worry about the returns for the next quarter. It is still a highly profitable game but for how long? Take away programming and personalities and what do you have? Vanilla.

Unfortunately, no matter which radio station you go to the biggest earners on the air are the first out the door to save the bottom line for the next quarter’s results. Have you wondered why you haven’t heard any new personalities on radio in the past decade? This is the reason.

To the managers who carry out orders from their masters in Toronto, thanks for all this. In my opinion there are no local radio station managers in this market, only caretakers. When the call comes from corporate headquarters, that is when they go for the axe. To be fair, this is the only way they can keep their jobs.

Yes, the personalities suffer but we, the audience, suffer more. Good luck to Larry & Willy… and thanks for so many great years of entertainment!

Larry and Willy were the reason a lot of us stopped listening to CFOX.

When KISS FM became Jack FM, a lot of people in the city tuned in to the station because for a few weeks, they had Rob Christie on introducing songs, giving brief updates, but mostly, playing music. A lot of people I know tuned in.
Then these two clowns came on. People abandoned this station in droves again.

Maybe it's time to tune in again.

I've lived here for years, never heard of them. What did I miss?
I'm going to guess nothing.

I like Jack for the music. Larry and Willy are far better than Bro Jake IMO but if there is less babble and more music in the morning, I'll be happy :)

Never cared much for either of those two. Always been a Rock 101 guy.

I do think Red Robinson's take on local radio is bang on though. The owner's of all our stations are from Toronto (maybe Jimmy Pattison is still an owner?) and really don't give a shit what the audience thinks about on air personalities or the content. Case in point Corus owns CKNW and talk about a watered down version of what it used to be. They invite politicians from both sides of the political spectrum for on air interviews. All they do is lob soft balls at them and never take them to task on any real issue. If they do ask a tough question the politician is allowed to evade and change the topic. The interviewers never say " for the record, you did not answer my question " . Talk about a waste of air time.

I do listen to CKNW at 12:15 PM daily. Bruce Allen calls a spade a fucking shovel and I like people that have an opinion. Not everyone likes his opinion but at least he says something that may not be Politically Correct. Needs to be said is my opinion.

Other than that, XM Radio for the Win!

From the few minutes I've been exposed to them over the years you've missed mindless babble. Spoken really loud cuz you know that makes it funnier.....

So, ya UhOh, nothing would be about right.
these guys are a dime a dozen..........the best duo was stewie and brian.

even worse are the american sports talkshows, where even the callers use the same fake character, or else they dont get beyond the screener.

I haven't listen to JACK-FM for years because of these two guys. I can't stand the banter. Actually I don't like most DJ's because they talk to much.
I think to be successful they should just play music and talk less. I want my radio station to be more like my IPod.

right on the line
People still listen to the radio?

Seriously :D I've been using a variety of internet streaming music for my car and at home for years now, most recently, the awesome TuneIn Radio Pro on Android which acts like a PVR for radio, and has a global lineup of virtually every radio station in the world available via stream including all quality levels of stream. It includes pretty much all the Vancouver radio stations but once you get a fix of some internationally based radio, you'll never listen to Vancouver radio again, at least for music.

I think there's an iPhone version of TuneIn as well. I love that program. Latest version lets you schedule radio station recordings as well as live on demand PVRing.

I once phoned in to speak to the Program Manager on The Beat 94.5. I had been in the car for about 30 minutes, my entire drive to work. I had yet to hear one song, so I complained about that fact. He told me that the overwhelming majority of people preferred to listen to talk shows during their morning commute, rather than music. He suggested that I listen to their station during a different time-slot in the day.

I decided to stop listening to their station at all, even though I'd met Kid, Holly, Nira, and Amy personally (never met Jonny), and they're interesting people, with a lot of wit and charm. And now Kid's gone to 104.9. We'll see. I think radio is bullshit; all advertising, just like TV, which I also don't watch...

You know how you tell your old and out of touch? If you still use/listen to the radio.
Get with the times, the new normal is where it's at.

The last thing I wanna do is listen to two dolts like Larry and Willy in the morning....XM Radio (Satelite) to listen to non-stop music or sports talk.
The problem is that Sat radio is NOT non stop music. It's ad free, it's not talk free.... far too much idiotic babble from DJs...

I've also given up on Rock 101 for the same reason. Can't wait for Bro Jake to shut up and retire or move on so the station can start playing music again.

I miss David Pratt on the team 1040
Weird, I grew tired of his pompous ass on 1040 and tuned him out. I watched him going from TSN West to Radio to where he is now.

He has been filling in on CKNW late night and some spots during the day.

For some reason he is almost tolerable now :pound: Not quite but almost.

good riddens...

never thought they were funny, childish...just the tip of the iceberg on the lousy radio that dominates Vancouver airways, except for maybe the Peak FM...I have gone over to the darks side and listen to Sirius and live and die by my iPod...maybe they can do away with the biggest shill, hand in your pocket for a freebee, better known as Brother Jake...when they pushed, Marty Strong out the door for Mike 'my pants are to tight' Reno, that was the last of me listening to any local station...wow, I feel a lot better now...enjoy the long weekend...
