Calgary Flames goalie gets 1-year pay award, an increase of 268%

TORONTO - The Kipper has cashed in, big-time.
Calgary goaltender Mikka Kiprusoff, who earned $800K US last season in back-stopping the Flames to the 1st playoff appearance in 8years & a berth in the Stanley Cup final, got a 1year salary arbitration award of $2.95million US on Monday.
It's a pay increase of 268%
Kiprussoff, 27, was 24-10-4 during the regular season & 15-11 in the postseason.
GMcoach Darryl Sutter acquired the 6foot Finn from the San Jose Sharks last year for a draft pick.
It was the best deal he ever made.
Kiprussoff was the 116th player drafted in 1995 & didn't move to N.A. to ply his trade until 1999.
He had the majority of his starts the 1st 2 years w/AHL clubs.
His future didn't look brighter after 2002-2003, when he was 5-14 in NHL starts for the Shakrs, who favoured 2001 league rookies of the year Evgeni Nabokov.
They rued the day they sent Kiprusoff to Calgary after he helped the Flames eliminate the Sharks in the Western Conference final in May.
On the way, the Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks.
The Flames subsequently lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup final.
Kiprusoff's award completed the summer's arbitration process.
During Friday's proceedings, the Flames pointed out repeatedly that K's value, while promising, is in fact tempered by inexperience.
Last season was his 1st as a starter. In fact, he appeared in only 38 of the Flames' regular-season games.
K's counter was equally predictable - - just look @the stat's, just look @the league-wide recognition (2nd in Vezina Trophy voting, 4th in Hart Trophy running).
This summer, 20-something goalies, the restricted free-agents, have commanded decent salaries.
Buffalo's Martin Biron, for e.g., signed for 2.8M., while Vancouver's Dan Cloutier & Nashville's Tomas Vokoun both hit $3M. jackpots.
Those 3, however, have combined for 820 big-league appearances.
K., 27, has just 85 career games to his name.

K., you single, cum on by, I'll help ya **SPEND** the .95 hahahahah Need MORE boots!!!!!!!!!

It is a bargain.

Given what they paid, overpaid, for Roman Turek? the last few years, then it is a bargain. I like the way that Kiprisoff always seems so calm and poised. Almost as if he's a Marijuana stoner.
