Jonathan Quick agreed to a 10-year contract extension on Thursday with the Los Angeles Kings, who locked up their playoff MVP goalie through the 2022-23 season.

Salary figure is unknown at this point but I have a feeling it won't be good since the Salary cap has risen to $70.2 Million.

Is this going to be another Luongo albatross of a deal?

They could be paying him a lot, I haven't heard a number yet. But yeah, $6 million increase in the cap?
A few teams might be interested in Luongo to meet the floor.

This should lead to very expensive free agents next week.

ok its 58 million for Quick

salary cap may be 70.2 this year but there's talk next year it will drop to the mid 50's after the new CBA is negotiated. teams are dumb to spend to the cap now.

If he has the injury problems that Rick DiPietro has, yes then it's an albatross deal. If he has a career comperable to Broduer or Luongo, then it's a win/win situation for Quick and the Kings.

Lets see...

Stanley Cup Wins:

Quick - 1 (Plus a Playoff MVP Trophy)
Loungo - 0

Yes I'd say he is worth it.

Luu's deal takes him to 43, Quick's deal takes him to 36 being the main difference between the two deals. Plus Quick has a Stanley Cup ring and the Conn Smythe trophy, while Luu has an Olympic gold medal and the much coveted William Jennings trophy;).

All true on the surface but Lu's last 4 yrs can be bought out for a relative pittance so his contract is actually to age 39.

Rumor from where? Vancouver still needs a back up.

I say go after this guy...

Martin Brodeur, a guy who hasn't used an agent in a long time, has suddenly hired super agent Pat Brisson to represent him. If they can't make a deal by Sunday with the New Jersey Devils, Brisson confirms, Brodeur will test the free agency market on July 1.

Sure he's a bit long in the tooth at 40 but I think he'd compliment Schneider well...

Wow, where do you get your hockey news from? The 10 minutes illegal semi-annual radio session by Bjhunter?

WHO?

Jason Garrison (28-years-old)

6'2"/~220 lbs
2011-2012 cap hit: $675,000

Garrison is one of the younger unrestricted free agents available and he's someone that I'm hoping the Stars target. He had a career year last season with 16 goals, 17 assists and 33 points (though the goals are probably an outlier) and looks to be an improving player.

He played big minutes with the Panthers last season, averaging 23:41 of ice time per game (more than anyone for the Stars) and found himself on the ice against some of the toughest competition. Despite that, he still had a fantastic corsi rating for a marginal defensive team.

He works the penalty kill, power play, blocks shots (124) and deals hits (127).

Yea, I'm not so sure about paying Garrison 4.6 mill per year. Obviously Suter doesn't want to come to Vancouver, and probably a signing like this means Shea Weber is out of the question next year as well...

Apparently this 27.6 mill deal was lower than the market value according to TSN.ca. I don't know why SE division players get so much hype. Playing in shitty division inflates the numbers. Look at Bouwmeester and Ballard.

Canucks need to trade Ballard as well.. 4 million dollar 5th defensemen.. *facepalm*
