Have you seen the teasers for this new show? One I have seen several times is where the senior Kim offers a customer a "gay discount". The young male customer profusely states he is not gay and Kim responds "That's ok, sometimes gay takes time!". Pretty funny I must admit.

What I do notice is how fake the Korean accent sounds that these actors portraying first generation Canadians from Korea speak in. I wonder if I was first generation Korean, or second generation Korean, etc. would I be insulted? I expect the producers made sure to hire only actors of Korean descent. In that way, just as Seinfeld could make fun of Jews (he even had an episode on his show about that topic) and Russel Peters makes fun of East Indian immigrants (especially his dad), they cannot be accused of racism. Just the same, I do wonder if there won't be some negative feedback about this show for this reason.

Of course there will be many other Asian stereo type slurs included in this show as well. These may also provide negative feedback. Even the teaser I described above could be interpreted to mean that Asian immigrants are less sensitive to the LGBT community.

What do you folks think? Am I being over sensitive?

I remember in the early 90's Margaret Cho had a show(forget the name) about a Korean-American family.

Her imitation of her mother's accent was hilarious.

Who cares- network sitcoms are the worst anyways.

I still love watching reruns of Hogans Heros.
OK- you got me there.
And maybe Taxi makes the grade too- but only because Chris Lloyd and Andy Kaufman are/were geniuses. (And Marilu Henner was a wet dream for raging-hormonal-teen-aged boys to boot!)

The "gay takes time" commercial was pretty stupid. The other one ("cool and christian" etc.) showed more promise. Still, I'm not sold on the show.
