Ughhhh... really? Time and time again this guy has simply NOT performed. I was really hoping we'd see him go. Maybe he'd click better somewhere else. Congratulations... we've now probably loaded up the cap on a mediocre second-line player that deserves to play on the fourth.

Basically - it means Demitra and his 4 million will not be here next year as that will go towards Kesler (making 1.75 this year). They need money to re-sign Mason Raymond (sure to get a raise from $700K). Not much cap room left since Burrows re-signed too. Guess we cannot afford Willie Mitchell unless he takes a pay cut (assuming he recovers from the concussion). Hodgson and Grabner better stick next year as we will not have any depth.

For the year Kesler was drafted - there were a lot of great players that played during the 2010 Olympics Gold Medal Game like Eric Staal, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Mike Richards, Patrice Bergeron, Shea Weber who make similar money. Cannot forget the one over-rated and over-paid whiner in Dion Phaneuf - he still has Sean Avery's HOT sloppy seconds (Elisha Cuthbert)

Kesler's overrated!!!

he's playing above his head in his option year. On any other real team, he's a solid 3rd liner. To think he can be as dominant on the 2nd line like some of the canuckleheads in this city is a joke. Heck the BW's even think he's better than my Joey Thornton lol. Yup though seriously, it wouldn't surprise me that half of his fans would rather keep kesler instead of Joe in a one for one trade. But I digress.

No doubt that we're getting a hard working player that can score & hit: but for $5millio per
year salary hit, good luck in thinking he's going to lead us to the promised land.

And just to remind the BW & CH, in the olympics it was kesler who was scary but that Kane, no one could touch him-- and that's who $5 mill is reserved for

Hey BJH, you gotta stop sniffing Thornton's jockstrap. It's making you silly, delusional and psychotic. LOL!
You are the only one who has compared Thornton to Kessler. They are completely different players.

A Little Perspective

Other second line centers around the league . . . based on Kesler being paid 1.75 this year - he is a great deal but not so much for next year. Still a solid two way player though.

The Coyotes have the best use of their cap as they are way under this year and includes having to pay Jovonoski 6.5 million this and next year (more than Henrik Sedin !).

* Pengions - Malkin (8.70) scores and has a Cup ring
* Sharks - Marleau (6.30) but plays on top line sometimes
* Canadiens - Cammalleri (6.00) way overpaid
* Flyers - Richard (5.75) makes less than overpaid Briere
* Rangers - Jokinen (5.25) way overpaid
* Bruins - Bergeron (4.75) solid defensive center
* Predators - Legwand (4.50) consistent
* Senators - Fisher (4.20) two words - Carrie Underwood
* Kings - Handzus (4.00) - overpaid
* Sabres - Roy (4.00) has potential
* Devils - Zajac (3.90) solid player
* Lightning - Stamkos (3.73) breakout season - expect huge raise
* Flames - Stajan (3.5 next year) too early to tell - resigned from Leafs
* Blackhawks - Bolland (3.4) decent - not great
* Ducks - Koivu (3.25) close to retiring?
* Red Wings - Filpula (3.00) two way player - needs more experience
* Capitals - Laich (2.10) best value
* Coyotes - Fiddler (1.10) best value

I am glad we are keeping him, lots of talk that we wouldn't.
He is fun to watch and seems to pick it up in bigger games.
Would have thought we'd see him at 4.0-4.5

We should have traded him off to a team that has no hope of winning a cup. He hates Canadians , but it's us 'Canadians' who cut him his paychecks:rolleyes::confused:
Let's get the facts straight, he never said that.

Exactly! Thx Hubba.

Yes he didn't. What he said was that he hated how the Canadians (team) felt like the medal/cup was something they were entitiled to or words to that effect.

He's a good signing providing they haven't paid too much for him, imo i think he's a 3-3.5 mill player given the ridiculous market.

what he did say was this...

Canadians fade as the game goes on...

and Luongo fights the puck...

Kesler is a punk...

stupid comments by a stupid man for the benefit of a stupid viewing audience...

no need to defend him just because he plays for the Canucks...

Ya, I agree...about 4 mil tops for this guy. I am sure he would of signed for 4 mil ...

Burrows is sure getting ripped off now.

Get rid of Luongo and free up some cap space and let Willie go as well...

I'm defending him no more than I'd be defending Bin laden when I say he didn't kill Kennedy or sink the Titanic. Its a statement of fact, a concept you should familiarize yourself with.

I don't think its realistic at this time, to consider the Canucks trade Luongo.
Its just not going to happen.

The team is basically set for next year, most of the team is signed.
I see them letting Mitchell go, probably O'brien as well.
For forwards, Demitra and Wellwood will probably both be gone, and I imagine the Canucks will do what
they can to keep Johnson and Raymond.
