I was just watching Citizen Kane. Citizen Kane is considered the best or at least one of the best films ever made. Have you seen it? did you like it? just curious. What do you consider the best film ever made?

I believe Citizen Kane is famous because it was the first film to employ cinematic techniques, like close-ups, quick cuts, etc. If you watch some movies that were made before Citizen Kane, like Dinner at Eight, Grand Hotel, or even the original King Kong or the original Scarface, the camera moved very little -- it was almost like filming a play.

It's been years since I've actually watched Citizen Kane myself, but I remember thinking that much like Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species, Kane was something that was so revolutionary that every movie that came after it copied it and built on it, so if you watch it now you almost wonder what all the fuss was about. I was left thinking the movie was just ok.

If you did want to watch it and try and truly appreciate it, I'd suggest maybe watching some other older movies of the time period, like the ones I've mentioned above, first to get yourself used to the standards that existed back then. In my university days I watched a ton of older movies, and when I got around to watching Gone With The Wind and Rhett Butler said to Scarlett O'Hara, "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn" it hit me like a bolt of lightning. I was like "Oh my God! What did he just say?" Very tame by today's standards, but once you frame it in the context of the time period, it was quite a moment :).

What on earth possessed you to use such a lame title for this thread?  "Just wondering..."? That's the title you use for a thread asking about the movie Citizen Kane? Even a brain-dead dung beetle would have been able to come up wtih a far better, a far more descriptive and far more appropriate title such as "Is Citizen Kane the best movie ever made?"

Seriously, dude.
at 3 am, I wasn't creative. If I were to post the question now, I would put a title to make you proud.

Citizen Kane is considered a cinematic masterpiece not necessarily because of its story but because of HOW that story is told. What's important for me when watching a movie is how well movie tells a story.
If that's the case, The Godfather (parts I and II) ranks among the best; Coppola's screenplay was brilliant.

Why are you so sarcastic about the title of a members thread???????????

What on earth possesses you to proclaim that even a brain-dead dung beetle would come up with a better title.

I must have missed the campaign were you got voted in as the "Thread Title Cop".

I thought you were classier than this.!!!!!!!!
