Just sold my $13K engagement ring and saw an SP who has the same name as my ex-GF

Things didn't work out. Got the cash and figured why not dip my toes into this hobby? To make it even better, why not start with an SP who has the same name as my ex-GF? Always wondered why my ex picked the name frequently used by pornstar/SP (she's an immigrant so she get to choose her name). I guess I'll never find out.

Enjoyed every second of it. I salute to you all gentlemen at perb. The info you shared meant a lot for a newbie like me.

I am just laughing that a guy blew 13 GRAND on a fricken engagement ring.The stone might be worth $1000 tops and it most likely has $150 worth of gold in it.

Jewellery is the biggest rip off in western society with it's 1000% markup.

Funny enough back in 2004 I decided to get rid of my engagement ring/1 year anniversary ring and I took them to a pawn shop.I got treated like I was a crackhead who was desperate for money.Ended up telling the guy to fuck himself.
A couple days later an idea popped into my head and I followed through with it on the weekend.I played a 9 hole round on the Valley 9 at Shaganappi golf course and at the 8th tee box I teed up both rings and borrowed another guys
sand wedge and I plinked them into the water hazard.

All 3 guys looked at me like I was nuts and then I told them the details and the reasoning of "I dont want someone else wearing my bad luck".....got a high five from all of them......have not put a ball in that water hazard since LOL.

$13K for a ring isn't the worst thing I've heard. How about $1,500 an hour for table service in Vegas? or $10K a day for a pool side cabana? A BMW that depreciates $40k off the lot and $90k after 4 years?
$13K for a ring with an appraisal at $20K? Solid investment if you lose it.

Her mom is CRAZY, we tried to buy a house and take on loans together but her mom was strongly against it. I had a feeling that I have to pay 100% for that house plus adding her daughter's name on the land title to make the marriage thing happen. Funny thing is my ex stands with her mom. Had to cut loose god knows what would happen after I marry her...

I am well aware of the ridiculous markup. A diamond larger than 1 carat is what my ex insisted on getting. Should have noticed this dangerous sign.

When I decided to blew this 13K I thought you cant put a price on love, but this shows how committed I am. How naive I was...

We all do things in the moment. Squirty obviously wasn't the girl for you and you figured it out. Doesn't necessarily make you naïve for bucking up for the bling.
My bride insisted on certain parameters when we were shopping for the ring. I ran with it, got creative, and definitely spent up. We've been together since the early 90's. It's not perfect but no regrets- and I would never regret the diamonds even if we didn't make it. It's all part of the ride as far as I'm concerned.
Good for you that you didn't cheap out.

Your very lucky you wriggled off that hook, any sign of high maintenance and expectations right off the start is never good. Well done, now you can splurge on your little Buddy!
