But not by any escort.

Was checking my online banking and noticed they have been charging me $29.95 a month.

Six figure account. Surely they are making money off me already. Talk about fucking nickel and diming! They already hit me with user and service fees on everything I do, and a monthly fee on top of that? Fuck I am so mad right now.

how is that a rip off? surely you know what banking plan you agreed to? Or is this just a cute, subtle way to let us all know you have 6 figures?

Welcome to Canadian banking. Every year the bank finds ways to screw you and leave their front line staff to take the blame.

You think it's bad now, wait another 5 years with everyone pushing people to bank online. Eventually when you get to a bank you'd think you're going to ICBC.

"Use the ATM machine" they say

"But I need to withdraw more money"

"Sure grab a number and have a seat, someone will serve you when your number is called

That's Canadian banking in 5 years

for years the bank I bank with has been pestering me to give up my old bank acount . I get zero service charges if my bank balace remains at a certian amount they have been trying to get me to give it up for a "new"

acount which is pretty much the same acount with the exeption that the amount of money. That I have to have in order not to get any service charges is higher. Banks make big bucks on serivce charges thats why it is always a good idea to get a magnifying glass and look at the terms of service. Which always seem to be changeing in the banks favour.

I remeber a frend told me about a man he whos services he used .
The man was an old italian tailor or shoe maker or something like that . He did not trust banks and never used credit cards never acepted credit cards lLved a very inexpensive lifestyle in the room above his shop he owned building he was in . He saved the money for it paid for it in cash everything he did was cash olny. If you wanted to pay him with credit card or cheqe or whatever no matter how much you where willing to pay you did not get a hand made suite or shoes from him he refused to take anything but cash money.

The really sick thing about your whole situation is that if you did decide to withdraw all your money the bank would most likeley charge you a fee for closeing the acount and takeing out your own money . I do sympathize with you but unfortunatley it is one of those things that we all have to put up with .

one idea is to do what this guy did

But you might have to give up pooning The olny sp I know of that did not take money for her services is in a biblical story where she offerd her services for two goats . Even still if you found a sp like that you would still have to pay for the goats unless you know of some place they run wild and how to cach them.

There is pretty much only one bank that charges $29.95 a month for their premium account. They are supposed to waive the fee each month that you have more than $5,000 in the account. Sometimes the bank needs to be reminded of the terms of their agreement because fees are deducted from the account automatically.

Here's a comparison table of canadian bank fees

The BMO I go to, usually to get cash from my US account.
Huge line. Whiteboard in the lobby. Has written on it

"Tired of standing in line? Ask us about online banking"

It's like they are literally mocking you.

I have some experiemce with this. If you have a six figure account your bank should be willing to negotiate deals on fees, interest rates, etc. I know mine has, although they weren't happy about it, lol

(a) Like others have said here, there are plenty accounts that waive the fees if you maintain a minimum balance (e.g. $3500 for one of my accounts)

(b) If $29.95 matters to you why are you keeping six figures in a straight up bank account? You could make risk free monthly interest somewhere around 10x that on $100,000 with a GIC or the like.

I actually hardly use the teller. Sometimes I take and have to deposit from one back to another pretty large amount sometimes $16.000. I write a cheque for myself which is free for me. Well, I use my "free" service bank for that.
My mortgage bank would charge to use cheque so I just don't deal with them.
So why would I want to take out cash from the ATM machine ? Max I use is $200 cash.
Rest I use my master cards which I always pay off before the due date so those fuckers don't get my interest.
top of it my grocery is pretty much free.
Haven't been screwed by the bank, just pay your bills in time. Life is good hehe

TD - it's annoying because it debits it, then credits it back, making mint go "You could bank with someone that doesn't charge you fees".

It's like they have two separate computer systems, one for taking fees out of your account - then another for putting rebates back into your account. But what drives me especially crazy is how long it takes them to post a Visa purchase. Often up to a week.

Correct ^ I was pissed because I was told it was an all fees waived deal. Some kind of shenanigans going on. This fee just appeared out of nowhere a few months ago.

Yes actually I just got back from three hours of relaxation with Riley. Feeling much better now. :peace:

Why still use the big banks?

I moved my corporate account from TD to Coast Capital a few years ago due to the incessant fees. Not only do I pay significantly less in fees now, but the staff are so much more pleasant to deal will. They even pre-configure your tax payees with your business # (installment, gst, arrears, etc) for you so that you do not have to cut physical cheques to the CRA. One time, I wrote a cheque, but forgot to transfer sufficient funds from by savings account to my chequing account. My cheque did not bounce, instead Coast Capital automatically transferred money from saving->chequing without charging me an overdraft fee. Let's see a big bank do something like this.

I moved my personal account from BMO to President's Choice a very long time ago. I've paid zero monthly fees since then. With BMO, I had 2 free withdrawal transactions per month before fees kicked in. Because of this, I would withdraw large amounts of cash on each visit to the ATM. Now, I withdraw smaller amounts of cash more frequently without having to think about fees.

Also, both Coast Capital and President's Choice pay higher interest on cash deposits than BMO/TD.

Why not just dump the big banks? Or open additional accounts at no-fee credit unions?
