I'm not an expert, but here is my understanding.
AMP = Asian Massage Parlour. A massage parlour is a business somewhat like normal businesses. There are usually special licensing rules, fees etc. for them. They have street addresses and if they advertise, will generally do so under a company name. They will show up as a business in the phone book probably.
They are allowed to provide massages. Though it is an open secret what is really going on. I believe that sex on the premises is generally legal though the negotiation for non-massage services is not. I'm not sure if that means that there are no issues if the rates are all-inclusive.
Generally speaking the ladies are at or above the age of consent.
Micros on the other hand are underground and are generally in apartments or houses. They are not regulated and there is less certainty that the girls are old enough, legally in the country, doing this voluntarily etc. Rates and services are generally better than at AMPs
AMPs are openly discussed on PERB and some of the better known micros also. There is apparently somewhat of an unofficial club that trades/shares micro info through PM (and generally this info is not shared with members who have not written (non-shill) reviews) When micros are reviewed on perb, contact info is often disguised or left out so that the micros do not get too much business and get shut down by LE or turfed by the landlords.
I no longer go to AMPs as a matter of preference and have never been to a micro so some of this not be accurate. I'm sure any errors will be brought to light shortly.
