If he loses his car it will be some very expensive tolls he ended up paying :)
Depends. How much do you think he paid for a 1993 Geo Metro, being a cheapskate he is? Probably a few hundred dollars, which could have paid for itself in tolls in several months. Police will hardly recover their investigation costs on this one even if they seize the car.

But it's a great story and great publicity for the police, hopefully will be a lesson for some.

The police in the lower mainland are constantly complaining about a lack of resources to investigate crime. Good to see that they have the resources available to tail and nail a toll evader. I feel much safer.

I think that is called 'picking the low-hanging fruit.'

It might seem to no big deal but what if he was driving across the bridge everyday for work? $3 each way is $6/day = $30 week = $120 month = $1440 year. How long was he doing it before he was caught? He could have been potentially been avoiding a couple of thousands dollars in tolls.

Sometimes low hanging fruit leads to bigger things. There are numerous stories of police stopping people for speeding and finding drugs and guns in vehicles. Should we stop speed enforcement then?

People love to complain about tolls but don't seem to have an issue paying $5 for a coffee from Starbucks/Tim Hortons everyday.
