A former MI5 handler became John le Carre to write many books about espionage in Europe after WW II. His writing was done with the full knowledge of MI5 and after a few books came out, they felt his fiction was a bit too close to reality. Hence David Cornwell became John le Carre.

Pretty sure I’ve read most of his novels. Now ‘George Smiley’ is fully retired.

Thanks for the great books and also the movies too.

Funny. No mention of this guy or his buddies in any of his books, and the fact that MI5 was run by the Russians for 50 years.

All of le Carre’s books were fictional, including all the characters. They refer to the top of MI5 as the “Circus”. The closet you’ll get to the inner workings of MI5 would be Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

YouTube has the BBC series with Alec Guinness as George Smiley. The best film version has Gary Oldman as the leading actor.

The BBC Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy series had me on the edge of my seat for weeks and it oozed British decline and fall.
