LAG,

That's precisely why I say they are Full of Shit. To quote Westwoody, they are hypocrites. They smile and are all friendly to you when they think you're scum if you are a non-believer. Fuck that!!! I don't need this shit. However, I can say the same thing about flakes from other religions (Same Shit, Different Name).

I apologize as my WTF question is not meant as an attack toward you, but more of a question to JWs and religious wackos in general. They may use terms like "heavenly deception" or "spiritual warfare". Whatever they did or how they call it, it is still fucked up.

About your point about your friendships with JWs and them dating outside their religion. Maybe outside the US is true. The aunt of a friend of mine told me that in her country of origin, Colombia, she did fellowshiped with the JWs in that country and they never pushed her to convert nor forced their beliefs on her. However, when she moved to the US and she fellowshiped with the JWs, them jovos were pretty pushy about associating, dating and befriending outside the religion. What I try to say is you do have a point with your experience.

While this is true, certain schools of religious thought tend to produce more extremists than moderates. I would class JWs in the former category.

When your core beliefs revolve around the fact that all other religious beliefs are totally wrong and devoid of any merit, and those believers are doomed, you are more likely to get extreme behaviour from members towards non members or ex-members. Frankly, the elders in the JW organization I encountered certainly did not seem to be moderating influences by any stretch.

While obviously one can argue that this is just individual behaviour, the fact of the matter is if you enter into one of these organizations, it is pretty likely you will start incorporating a lot of the organization's beliefs and attitudes.

Same could be said for most religions.

JoHo's are my favourite religious people...I haven't seen or spoken to one in years!

Seriously, where'd they all go? I remember it used to be at least a monthly occurence having these fuckers knock on your door and harass you (always with a little kid in tow so you wouldn't say how you really felt). But I honestly haven't seen any in about a decade, maybe longer. I know they're out there somewhere, but have they changed their recruiting tactics? Following a "direct marketing" example maybe?

dumb question
I just wish there was a law preventing them from going door to door. Remember all the hoopla raised about telemarketers and don't call lists? I think the JW's tactics are far worse but this is only my opinion. I'd rather have a telemarkecer phone and politely tell them I am not interested that deal with religious zealots in the privacy of my own home. People can believe what ever they want religiously, i could care less. As far as I am concerned, if I am not part of the congregation on Sundays, then duh, I am not interested. Just imagine the cries of racisum or injustice if such a law came to be. Ridiculous. My best advice is just tell them to fuck off as i do (i don't care if their children are present) everytime. If I am aproached on the street I politely decline but not at my own front door. jus ma 2cents

they are in japan apparently. when i was in tokyo staying with my buddy we were out partying all night and got in at 7am. low and behold at 9am we got a door buzz and it was a japanese jw. surprised as shit to see my buddy, who is 6'4 answer the door hung over in his underwear and me 6'2 get up off the floor hung over as shit, stinking of a bottle and say "who the fuck is it?"

lol, i'll never forget the look on that poor guys face. i bet he wasn't expecting two towering hung over smelly whiteboys on the other side of that door. all he said was "oh sugoi ne, from america?" he gave us a couple of japanese watchtowers and left.

sometimes you do gotta give them some points for being able to speak many different languages. i remember once i opened the door and some white dude was speaking to me and i was like, "sorry, i don't speak chinese..." lol:D

most JW's i've come across tended to be very educated, knowledgable and rational to a certain extent, mostly in a very biased way.

i once tried to engage them in a debate about the origin of HIV/AIDS, and i can tell you, they are very sly and clever in their response. when i was trying to parley the notion that certain strains of the virus (i think it was the H strain or something) has been in existent in western africa for at least 10000 years, how humans caught a similar disease from monkeys, according to some anthropological evidence. somehow that JW fellow agreed with what i said, but twisted what i said by explaining that it was caused by sexual deviants (contracting through beastility, and spreading via homosexuality)

now that i'm on the topic of HIV/AIDS....anyone know what's the percentage of JW's living with the virus? just curious on how they would explain it;)

You'll have a group book study lets say on Tuesday for an hour, and then on Thursday you have ministry school for 2 hours. Saturday is usually reserved from going from door to door. (Preaching work they call it.) On Sunday you'll have a talk for 1 hour followed up by studing the Watchtower in a group session for another hour.

Many hours are spent preparing for the various meetings JWs attend throughtout the week. Plus all the reading they do with the publications the the WatchTower Society publishes. To be a JW you have to be very committed.

There is no other christian based religion that studies the bible like JWs.

Yes... their own "translation" of the bible (the New World Translation  ), which is only available thru their mother headquarter in Crooklyn... I mean... Brooklyn, NY.

Any other translation of the bible is "wrong" according to them

According to JWs their version of the bible is the purest of the pure because they call God by his real name............Jehovah. I have seen for myself old version of the King James and in it they do use Jehovah as Gods name.

Crooklyn.........LOL

Actually, most bibles are just translations of the King James version translated into modern English. That being said the NWT version used by JWs has been edited to conform to their own beliefs which are definitely not part of traditional Christian Canon. One tiny example is that most Christians consider Christ the son of God, whereas the JWs believe Christ and the Archangel Michael are the same person......
