I've gained about 5 lbs lately, and the belt is getting tighter, so I've come up with a plan to lose 5 lbs.

Continue exercising 3 hours a week equally split between cardio and weights.

Take the raisins out of my Raisin Bran cereal (Didn't realize how bad this cereal was!)

No more morning tea biscuits with butter (normally 3 days a week)

Limit the number of slices of bread a day to 4

Cut down the number of cookies at lunch from 2 to 1

Cut out the after dinner scoop of ice cream and have a cookie instead

Cut down the number of cans of ginger ale to 1 a week

Unfortunately, I can't sleep when I'm hungry, so I'm thinking about drinking half a bottle of Ensure

Imo there are far better plant based, clean, nutritionally packed meal/snack replacements. I use this one from vega sequels http://myvega.com/products/vega-one-shake/features-benefits

To the op, your plan will likely work..5 lbs will quickly disappear when you cut down/out crappy processed 'food.'

add intake of water to fool your stomach in to thinking it's full. that's the easiest way.

Otherwise take a laxative. that's gotta be good for 5lbs. or get the flu. that will do it for sure.

I looked up what some of the calories are on the items I eat.

Tea biscuit, 230 calories
2 cookies, 160 calories
125 ml of ice cream, 210 calories
2 slices of bread, 180 calories

That's almost 800 calories a day I don't need.

If I cut 500 to 800 calories a day, I should be able to lose the 5 lbs in about 5 weeks.

I'm not looking to dramatically change my eating habits because they aren't that bad.

Diet alone isn't the answer anyway...increasing our activity levels is really the only way to go.

Why? Because that's how you burn body fat, which is what you want to do. Otherwise, your 5 lb loss will be water loss or, even worse, loss of lean muscle mass, which is your body's first preference, when it's being starved (that's how the body sees a reduction in calories)!

http://www.burnthefat.com Tom Venuto is considered the expert when it comes to burning body fat.

Drink one large glass of water 1/2 hour before each meal, and your stomach will be more full so you will eat less.

The human body is a complex biological system. Using simple math like this doesn't even begin to address the hormonal response to protein, fat, all those good and bad carbs, where it is stored, how it is circulated & used as fuel. But good on you for eliminating a whole bunch of sugary starchy crap. Keep us posted, i suspect you'll shed 5 lbs in a few days, 10 lbs in a few weeks.

Re dairy (and whey), it's estimated 70% of the population is lactose intolerant (milk sugar) but that number is murky as casein (milk protein) could be a problem plus it comes from medicated/artificial hormone jacked sick cows. Milk doesn't do a body good.

i was sorta looking at from the other side... wouldn't they LOVE to be in the postion of dramatizing over 5 LBS?
I wouldn't say I'm dramatizing over 5 lbs, but if you don't keep a check on yourself, 5 lbs becomes 10 lbs, and 10 lbs becomes 20 lbs.

I know guys I work with who have put on weight and could easily stand to lose 40 lbs. 40 lbs is like always carrying around a large bag of dog food.

At the moment, I exercise 3 times a week for an hour equally split between cardio and weights. I believe I should be able to lose my 5 lbs in 5 weeks by making these simple diet changes.

I think you will be fine by making the dietary changes you mentioned. Some might argue about good and bad carbs or whatever, but if you just want to lose five pounds that will do the trick. I just lost five pounds since the start of the year and it was no more complicated than calories burned vs. calories consumed.

IMHO the hardest five pounds to lose are the first five anyway, as your body gets used to getting the same amount of work done with a lesser amount of food.
