Did a Google search and discovered it is a Bengali dish. 'Puffed rice'.

So if there was such a restaurant in Vancouver, that would be a good starting place.

Its not prevalent in Bengali Restaurants (lots of them in fraser street) since its more of a street food rather than a meal. The last time I saw someone selling it was on a cultural program in my university hosted by the student association....

Maybe the restaurants in Toronto sell it...

Thanks for the help & yes i doubt it exists in Vancouver. I asked the folks at Union Bar to think about adding it to their pan-asian menu so fingers crossed meanwhile i think i'll go on an indian supermarket expedition & assemble my own batch. I'll be the jhal muri potluck dinner guest this summer or maybe start a food cart. :p

Vij's just launched their street food truck, and they have a dish that features puffed rice, chickpeas, peas, almonds, cashews and mint-mango chutney.

I imagine this is regional variation of jhal muri. Or, it's one of those dishes where everyone has their family recipe, and there's no one "true" interpretation of the dish.

That dish is food heaven!

There is a similar dish called Bhel Puri at a few Indian restaurants. It's fabulous!
