A few years ago when I worked in Kits, I used to enjoy having lunch at a little pub on Broadway a few blocks west of Macdonald, where they had a lunch special of a hamburger and a pint of draft for $5.95.

Does anybody know of a similar deal on the East side? Possibly on Main, Fraser or Victoria?

And I already know about the Cambie Cafe's $2.99 cheeseburger. I'm seeking something with a bit more ambience.

Five Point on Main inbetween 15th and 16th. The last time i was there they had a beer/burger special but normally it'll set you back $15 with tip. Lotsa young hotties, big comfy room with fireplace and a great outdoor patio.

Hey, I'm a senior on a fixed income. If I spent more than $6 for a burger and a beer, I'd have no cash left for pooning.

Original Joe's at Cambie and Broadway has fairly decent prices. Plus the portions are HUGE. The appy Chicken Fingers is usually enough for a meal unto itself. The side Ceasar salad is as big as some place's full-size salad. Dunno about the beer prices, tho, as I'm not a beer drinker, but I think its pretty average.

Sushiyama at Broadway and Brunswick has the cheapest beer price I''ve seen in a while. $2.95/bottle plus their food is excellent and again, comes in big portions. If you're a sushi person, this place is great, but its small too, so there's usually a 10 - 20 minute wait to get in.

Cheap eats and beer

I saw an ad yesterday in the current GS for a place in gastown (the name escapes me but check the ads for yourself) that features $2.50 pints of Kokanee every day. $2 on Sunday. That's about the best deal I have heard of in some time.

Warm Beer and Bad Food

Yes that is the actual name of the establishment, "Warm Beer & Bad Food" located in central Amsterdam near Ouda kirke, it's a franchise chain operating out of Australia and it has an outback decorum inside with hacked out furniture from wood, cave like walls. Cool place. The burgers, beers and cute Dutch waitresses were awesome, but would set you back 15 euros.

Not exactly a burger, but there's excellent inexpensive Pakistani & Indian food on Fraser near 45th, northeast side, at Al-Watan Tandoori.

For 5.99 you get a big plate of rice, tandoori chicken, dal, curried veggies and butter chicken, along with a huge, fresh naan with salad and raita. It's their lunch special served from 11am to 3:30 pm.

No beer either, 'cause he's an orthodox Muslim.

Highly recommended. Would repeat.

I believe combining food and liquor in a special is actually illegal according to the bc liquor control board which is why the lack of burger and beer specials...but hey, old fart, you can't have everything, you get to order from those sweet senior citizens menus.

RE: cheap beer and a burger...

Oldfart,

I would second the Cambie Hotel for beer and a burger for five bucks. And the washrooms are really nice too. I haven't been in the women's washroom, but the men's washroom has one of those big horse trough porcelan pee tanks like they have at Pacific Colonsemen. I like those cause they're easy to hit. You should bring your own soap or just don't touch anything.

Bon appetite.

Later,
bobsled.
