i REALLY like proactive. I once bad acne, and after 2 weeks of using it I cleared up quite nicely. You *must* use it every day. If I skip 2-3 days I break out and thats no fun. In my opinion it works really well and feels very refreshing after the routine is done. you can use it 1ce a day or 2ce depending on the sevaritiy. Price is 40 every 2 months, and there are other products in their cataloge.

I used to have bad acne and was treated with Accutane in my early 20s. Prior to that I had tried numerous over-the-counter treatments for years and seen dermatologists who prescribed tetracycline medication, and skin treatments with benxyol peroxide and sulfur dioxide.

Accutane did wonders for me, with no side effect other than mildly dry skin. I am still susceptable to acne, but mildly. The plus side is that with over-active skin glands, my face has very few wrinkles and people tell me I look ten years younger than I am.

The only recommendation I have is to consult a dermatologist. Like I say, it did wonders for me when I thought there was no hope.

Are you sure it's acne ??

Hi Lenny,

I've got a similar problem, and yes it does keep you away from SPs. Been to a least a dozen doctors and a dermatologist. But it does not happen in the sweat glands, it happens in the hair follicles, they call it folliculitis, and it is chronic.

The dermatologist had a large patch put on my back for several days to see what I was allergic to, but the results were inconclusive. She then prescribed both oral and topical antibiotics, which did nothing. I have found an antibacterial soap called Teraseptic to work. It works better if I apply it (diluted) after my morning shower and leave it on my skin.

Also found an application of Penaten, a medicated skin cream, applied at night to soothe the itching and speed healing to help.

Good luck finding a solution, and let us know if you find something which works, Willie

Had it /Have it.

I have had acni from the age of 13 .. had the cystict type ..scarded me up a bit . srewed up my confidence with girls .... no girl friend ..no dates no sex... turned me in to a intrevert skin mag. wanker... oh and did I mention a vergin until 50.
Yes I know what it can do to ones self esteam... but I still got through it .. abetter person .... not realy .
as for treatment I tried most .. acutain did work for the cysese but my calesteral went up to high .. so I had to take low doeses for short piriods of time ..... .

I still get it to day ..... but what helps a lot is having confidence in one self .. not caring what others think .. just beleaving you are alll right you the best you can be and be happy ( i know that is not alway that easy )

Going to escorts helped .... and finally haveing a girl friend helps to .... some one who does not just see you for how you look but who you are ...corny but true

Also this new stuff works well Clindoxyl Gel... have to get it from the Doc but it works all over . Good luck :)

as a teenager i had mild acne. no problems now.

try minocyclin, antibiotic prescription from your doctor is required. it worked wonders for me.

solugel is a cream I have tried too. I find it to be the best of the creams. tried a whole bunch. Lots dry the hell out of your skin and your face just looks ugly. I believe it is non-prescription (can't remember) and there is a prescription version that is a stronger?? this cream is pretty good i thought.

wash with phisoderm, a soap. when washing your face. just splash water on or put your whole head under the tap. That is what I do. If you scrub, you can spread the bacteria and it will just make it worst. just put the soap on your hand and rinse like your hand is a cup holding the soap under the tap. Don't really touch. cuz if you touch it will make it worst. from my experience. As well never touch your face during the day. The more you touch, the worst it will get.

levulan, uv and microdermabrasion was recommended to me recently... dunno how well it works. but the physician was pretty high on it and frankly i don't have any ance anymore so I didn't even consider as he was just trying to sell his product. but i think it could be good, he says it could remove scars etc

I have to agree with BOING. A good diet works wonders.
-Plenty of fruits & veggies (preferably raw).
-Complex carbs: provides fiber to help with the elimination process. Skin problems can be a result of built up toxins from constipation.
-Plenty of filtered water to flush out toxins & regenerate the skin.
-Consider a good multi vitamin & mineral supplement. Lots of vitamin deficentcies can show up as skin problems.
-Avoid junk food as it aggrivates skin conditions.
-Get plenty of rest & exercise.
-Saunas or steam rooms help the skin sweat out toxins.
-Try a face mask x1 week. Clay, volcanic, there's lots of differant ones.
-Try avoiding heavily scented soaps & laundry detergent. You could have sensitive skin.
-Try tea tree oil. Its a natural anti biotic thats also great for cuts & scrapes.

I would try to avoid perscription meds for acne. While it may help the condition in the begining, taking anti biotics for long periods of time will do further damage. I've known many people who took tetracycline & their acne did get better but when they stopped the medication it came back.
I think i'm in love. :)
