Actually, the borrowing is more of a Liberal thing :) The NDP was more into grabbing profits from crown corps to subsidize costs, as well as maintaining healthy corporate taxes. Sadly, the Liberals sold off all usefull crown corps to friends, raid the remaining crown corps to the point that they have to raise rates for us in order to compensate... and they borrow against public cofferes (such as the generational payment of the p3's) for the rest.

As much as the NDP bungled, at least they bungled the money INSIDE of BC... the Liberals keep funneling it OUTSIDE of BC.
Yah its great to sit here and reflect how they spent nearly $2B on fast cats (ships + spares + special materials + training + contingency fund for support long term). Then they were sold for what $20M?? That $2B if spent properly on ships we could use like the Spirit Class, we would still be using them today and for the next thirty years.

As long as they stay out of the big projects and stick to their social engineering agenda we will all be better off

Now to figure out how it will be paid for without crippling the middle class with more taxes or chasing off corporations who work in BC.

I think the best is if no party gets a majority. Things seem to run better when politicians don't make any decisions.

The Liberals could've sold the fast cats to back east for at least a 50% recovery of the funds, the chance to show that they were finacially savvy, and still been able to fling dung at the NDP for the expense of the ferries. Instead, they sold them to the Washington (US) group for $1 each.

The NDP, as wasteful as they were, spend the 2 bil here. Personally, I'd rather that my govenment spends 2bil here rather than 6 bucks there...

How exactly do you know that? Proof? Were you sitting at the table during negotiations?

Those Fast Cats are great if you had a nice long run like Sydney Australia to Hobart, Tasmania like they were intended not some hour long run plus reversing into the dock once you were there

I call bullshit.

Like Al said it would have been cheaper just to throw money at the needy instead of screwing up BC Ferries for a decade.

I'm not going to spend hours searching for an obscure financial document online :) However, I can also point you to the fact that simply SCRAPPING the ferries would've resulted in more cash in hand (approx 60 mil) than the 17 mil they were sold for.

Some links, for fun:

The current crop of shit from the NDP and the Libs has nothing on what was the worst government the province has ever seen, the first NDP government of the 70's. The litany of shit that the NDP perpetrated back then echoes today, the crown jewel of which was the creation of the fucking shithouse known as ICBC.
You mean the same ICBC the government keeps using as an ATM machine by skimming money into general revenues instead of lowering rates?
