is the iphone 5 worth getting for extra 100-200.00?

I am aware of what rooting my phone does, having already done it once. About two years ago I had a Motorola Dext stuck on Android 1.5 because Bell and Motorola were too lazy to release upgraded firmware that would have enabled tethering, so I rooted it and installed a custom ROM. My affront lies not with how hard or how easy it was to accomplish, but with how fucking awful the support was that I was forced to take matters into my own hands. Nowadays I have a Nexus S running stock 4.1.1 and I don't have to deal with the shitty networks or the shitty manufacturers' lack of support outside of the States. Until the other guys step up their game, they can sit on it and rotate for all I care.

This is the main reason I will never buy another Motorola phone so long as I live in Canada... After being forced to root my phone and flash custom firmware onto it just to enable tethering, which the OEM version of Android for that phone in Canada did not support, I am done with that company. Their customer service outside of the States is not so much poor, as it is nonexistent.
I took time to research before making the switch to Android so based on manufacturers' slowness to update (they seem to abandon products quicky!) I decided I'd only buy Google's official products. I am really happy with the Galaxy Nexus, and I'm currently eyeing the Nexus 7 since I sold my laptop a few weeks ago. Google Now is the bomb.

That was more-or-less my rationale behind buying the Nexus S. The Motorola was a replacement phone that Bell sent me after my Nokia N97 shit the bed (a whole other story I don't want to get into) and so I was involuntarily brought into the Android fold... However, it wasn't hard to see which way the wind was blowing, so I got the Nexus S when the opportunity presented itself. It has its occasional quirks, but overall I've been quite happy with it.

Have you got JB on it yet? My brother has the NExus S and says it got a lot faster with Android 4.1. He's really happy with it.

Well I have a whole lot of respect for my Iphone now, I recently rode up from Prescott Az and before I left there I threw my laundry in the machine at the laundry mat. To my horror when I opened the machine and pulled my clothes out my Iphone was laying at the bottom of the tub, it had done a full cycle of permanent press! The lady there said it happens once in a while and she kept a bag of rice in the cupboard, we stuffed it in there and left it overnite. The next day nothing happened so I plugged my charger into it and like magic the Iphone came back to life, that was a month ago and it works fine, I would like to see another phone do that trick, I'm sold on Apple products.
Wow, Hatrick, that's a helluvan-i-phone story! I wish I'd know about this the time I dropped my phone in the toilet (clean water)! Instead, I rushed over to the Apple store to replace it immediately (it was working intermittently and I never imagined that a little rice could do the job)!

Good to know for the future, although I am now very careful with my i-phone around toilets!

Yeah, it's running 4.1.1. I haven't noticed any major difference in speed from previous versions, but it was pretty slick to begin with, so no complaints, really. I think the big thing for 4.1 was Google Now, which I have yet to try, cuz I'm a goddamn paranoid sonofabitch. Or just lazy. Or both.

I have a company BlackBerry Curve. Came into the bathroom where my 3 & 6 year old boys were bathing, and they had my BB under the water playing "submarine" with it. it was freaky, glowing under water. Never shut off, never stopped working. I pulled it out, popped the back cover and drained all the water out, the spent 30 min gently drying with a hair dryer. It never even shut off, and was still dinging as incoming messaged were hitting the server while I was drying it out. That was 6 months ago, and not a hiccup since.

The hardware on these things are pretty bomber these days. Can't say the same about the BB software unfortunately...

That is nothing special. We used to run laptop system boards through the dishwasher years ago, when coffee or wine was spilled on a laptop. Given time to dry and nothing was shorted out by the coffee and wine and they were good to go. If the phone was asleep and no external power, you stood a 60% chance of it coming back. It still may not last long and the Warranty is now VOID. They have a strip inside that changes colour if water introduced. So don't be surprised if it just stops working or gets wonky some day.

I have several Apple computers and would never go back to a PC. However, I wonder how many out there who aren't fans of the iphone have other Apple products? It's time for a new phone and while I think there are many excellent phones out there, I'm seriously considering an iphone simple because of the ease of connectivity with my other Apple products. Anybody have thoughts on this?

Hi I'm new here but thought I'd put in my 0.02 worth...
Many things I totally dislike about the apple products. I feel not only is it a huge band wagon but i detest been tied down. You have to use it for everything. I go through electronics like no tomorrow. I love the versatility of droid and Samsung is my ATF and i believe I have enough kicking around to open my own little kiosk lol!!! :) The abundance of free apps and not being tied down allows me to change up my phone and play with other makes and models. For example I just bought the HTC one x. However I'm not losing a thing as once I reinstall my Google account everything is syned to the new device. The iphone is, in my pov, a bit of hype and a cash cow and my money doesn't moooo :) So my friend, in my opinion, the keep your money in your wallet. Usually the next iphone up is only minorly different from the previous iphone.... Again lol just me and my 0.02 worth :)

Cheers

Hi Carrieann

I have been through numerous phones from Nokia, laptops from HP, Toshiba yadda yadda yadda. The thing I liked about the MS XP or whatever system was I could download and operate on my laptop. Then I started getting all sorts of conflicts with SW that I required for my business. Then eventually I just had a Sony laptop totally become a brick on me.

I switched to a MacBook in 2009 and still use it daily. Longest I have ever used a single laptop from one maker ever. I attribute this to the SW and apps are all 'controlled' by Apple. They make sure everything works with everything else IMHO. Add another MacBook Pro like I have recently, or iPod, or iPad and voila they all talk to each other without conflicts.

Ironically, I still use an Android phone. Maybe one day I may switch over to an iPhone but for now I have enough Apple products.

Hi back!! :)
Well my friend I totally agree with you and ye a smart cookie!! :) I couldn't agree with you more. Now if apple can make a product to make a perfect brew and manage to bring me that perfect cup of coffee to zzzz bed I mayyyyISH consider dropping a few bucks. I'm just not impressed at the ethics of the company. They are like just another Colby Briant... They need some cheese to go with their whine lol!! :)
