Does anybody else have a Shaw internet account and can't check their email?
Mine's been screwed since last night. Their 24/7 help line rings busy.

Shaw webmail via a browser doesn't connect either.
What pisses me off is that they have been NIS since 11 pm last night, and haven't fixed it in nine hours.

Shaw

I just got off the phone with them a few minutes ago and they say they "hope" to have it up and running again about noon today.

I had problems too, but I just began getting Shaw emails again. They need a blog/announcement/update page; would be nice to see an update of just what went on. Letting us know what happened (i.e. was it their fault, or was there a horrible fire that knocked something out etc) could go a long way to appease "us". At least total internet access wasn't cut. I would have gone nuts :p

I heard on the news that the central server in Calgary is out due to a power outage. Once they get the power up again, it'll take a little time to get them back and running again. I believe the mail is mirrored on other servers across the country which might account for sporadic service for some.

Yup had the same problem last night but it seems okay now.

This happened a few months back, when I called they said the central
server had been hit by a virus affecting only a few customers in certain
areas.

It does get maddening for sure.

shouldn't we complain to the CRTC every time this stuff happens? then it would put pressure to get more consistent service.....problem is, then shaw will just turn around and ask CRTC for a rate hike to cover costs (ie. protect the margin). have you heard how much some of these guys at shaw make????

Ditto!!! The fukkin things been out since early yesterday. Webmails pooched too. Reminds me of the early Win 95, 98 days where e-mail was just a joke to fukk around with and you wouldn't dream of sending important messages that way.

Actually I think the service overall from Shaw is great. Much better then Telus. Plus from what I understand Internet service is not reguated by the CRTC and Shaw does not need to apply to them to increase their rates for Internet service.

"In 1999 the CRTC found that while some Internet applications fell under the Broadcasting Act, the applications did not warrant regulation"*
* New Media, Telecom Public Notice CRTC 99-14, Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 1999-84, May 17, 1999.

When I was the owner of an ISP (dial up) we could set our own prices and competition was what regulated the rates. We had to do nothing other then let our customer know if we were raising our rates.

I switched from Shaw to Telus a few years back. I've found Telus speed to be much more consistent.

I did not read all the posts in this thread so sorry if this is repeat info but I too have a problem but only one of my e-mail accounts.

I found out a previous time this happened that both my Shaw e-mail accounts are on different servers. One was working last night but other did not. Outlook checks one first and got hung up right there. Going thru Shaw site let me check the second one so even if you can not access one thru Outlook, you MAY thru Shaw web-mail. I checked an hour ago and all was fine. Now, one works (same one as last night) and other does not.
