I think those percentages are just made up to help keep prostitution illegal. (Considering how taboo it is.) People can't accept change, think this is morally wrong, and need excitement in their lives- even if it's coming in the form of false statistics.
I've only been doing this for a few days, but I've had a number of friends who are escorts and none of them were addicted to anything or had pimps.

Ja! I hate the American spell check. I have been fighting with the word traveller, among others, and I keep thinking I am slowly dissolving into dementia, but, it is the American spell check that is to blame!!

My search doesn't find anything later than 2008, but she used to be very active on Perb.

homeland security is at it again. they've seized the dirty.com for whatever reason. apparently the americans now think they are the internet police.

Smart girl

"randomness" in statistics just means that each person from the population has an equal chance of being chosen for the sample group. Hope that helps :)
Seeing you explain representative sampling, confidence limits and standard deviation turned me on! I'm serious :)

I may have to make a little day trip to Victoria

i guess to just echo some one else first, people focus on the sp first, and then blame all the problems that person has on that.
its an easy out

a dancer told me you act like you have class and demand respect you will get it.
you act like a cheap whore that is also what you get.

i kind of agree, people make most of there own problems for sure,
you can be blind sided out of no where for sure but most of what happens to you is your own doing

i think being a escort is not for every one,
i think that,
there are highs you can get caught up in. and get carried away in the sex the money the ego whatever, or drugs
and there are lows. the insults the face society and people place on what you do. having to or trying to have a relationship while doing this,
bad clients etc, i think at times yeah it has to be tough.

new escorts seem to be all over the place i think or it seems to me as they try and balance it all.

escorts that have been in this along time, never get to high or to low,
the sex it means nothing to them men come and go,
all the time, they have clients they like others not so much,
either way i think they don't get to involved they give the same service to both,

and try to have a private life.
i think its hard to be an escort, and sad, in a way,

we men go back to our wifes what does an escort go back to,

so many escorts want to have a normal life with a man, etc etc, at least at some point,

and i think it has to be a very special man to put up with the fact that your wife has been an escort for years and years and years,
and at the company christmass party he is going to wonder while he is taking a piss if the guy next to him is going to tell him that he enjoyed fucking his wife.
and he might get descriptive and lie about what she did for him

guys are like that they can be creeps. he thinks he is your friend you go out drinking with him and guess what the stories he tells at the water cooler tommorrow,

lots and lots of guy would love to tell you how they fucked your wife.
yeah guys can be the lowest people on earth
and i think it would take a real special guy to put up with that,

i think people don;t understand what an escort goes through, so well its easy to have a problem with her because she is an escort.

i love escorts
but i think its so sad in what society does to them, it makes it so hard for them to have like a normal life. husband kids family all that.

just my thoughts,
but over all, i think like everything else you make most of your own problems

I think we choose normalcy even in craziness. I find myself reverting back to things that bring me joy, such as having my hands in the dirt, going for a hike that burns, playing music, throwing the ball for the dog even though it's muddy as hell.....simple things.

Choose grounded and successful, and strive for that. Seems to me that that philosophy applied to me during any job I've ever held (or didn't want to hold.)

If I chose to feel 'ruined' by this experience in my life, that's exactly what I will manifest. F--k that nonsense!

Is life tough for everyone? Yep...."mo' money, mo' problems......"

Am I ruined? HELL no. Are my eyes open to other aspects of the world? Absolutely.

I try to feel ever more grateful for the little things. Life is gone in an instant.....

If I had balls.....

I would rather be nuts than condiments. 'You' can be the condiment. CON-DEMENT. I do know that you, for one, have nuts.......

One is mainstay protein, and the other just added salt and calories.

Hugs for that.

*lick finger, place in air, and take my air point.*

LMAO. :p

Ya...........

your mom says hi.
i've pooned over 20 years, you'd be surprised how many girls use(either drugs or booze). I've also became friends of a lot of current & former sp's, most of them say they just put there minds in a different place when there with a client. Seriously, i don't blame them if they gotta put a 50 year old guys dick in there mouth & there young enough to be there daughter.
Let's add gambling and blatant over consuming to that list of destructive behaviors. Those two are every bit as bad as drugs and alcohol.

Damn, I am really smart!

A guy came on my porch about a week and a half ago looking for donation to the same "charity" savethewomen.ca

I used my typical response to charities I am unfamiliar with - I will check it out later and I don't donate to charities I am unfamiliar with . . .

The guy didn't pass my sniff test on looks and legitimacy so it was easy to say no.

Never the safest place
There was a realistic survey done a few years ago in Australia.
Queensland's Female Sex Workers Generally Happy In Their Work
Queensland's female sex workers have similar levels of job satisfaction, physical health and mental well-being as women in the general population...
... surveyed 247 female sex workers aged between 18 and 57 years located throughout Queensland ...
And the New Zealand government's very detailed 2008 report found that:
The reasons people joined and stayed in the sex industry are complex, however money was the main reason.
Fewer than 17 per cent said they are working to support drug or alcohol use, although when broken down by sector street-based sex workers are more likely to report needing to pay for drugs or alcohol (45 per cent).
But, c'mon, who needs real surveys when Heather Mallick can so accurately explain the situation in her Toronto Star column. She knows that sex work is "soul-destroying", which she apparently verified by assessing the invisible "damage to their heart's core" that "can be seen on the faces and bodies of prostitution's victims", though she did not specify how many of these faces she looked at.

Not to disparage Heather Mallick's method of academic study, but I think now might be a good time to encourage Canadian universities to conduct formal surveys like the one in Australia.

^ Damn. I am just reading this thread now and I'm so appalled that this bitch basically lied to that reporter about her life story as well as those stats.

It's too bad because I know the guy that wrote the article (albeit not that well) and I'm a bit disappointed that he didn't do a little more fact checking on the stats that she pulled out of her ass along with her back story before he wrote this article. Then again, he's more of a sports and human interest journalist and not the serious investigative type.
It is sad indeed, as falsified stories like that are what furthers stereotypes about sex trade workers and services users.

Recently I received a call from a local news station wanting someone from the non-profit I work at to go on camera and say something like “being a sex trade worker is extremely dangerous”. This was after a local streetwalker was assaulted. I asked the person on the other end of the phone how they knew being a sex trade worker as so dangerous.

I am not trying to saying that I think being a street walker is a safe line of work but I don’t agree with1) stereotypes being perpetuated based on limited and outdated research 2) ALL sex trade worker being grouped together 3) ALL services users being viewed as men who abuse women.

Ugh I am so sick of news stories coming out like that one; there are many women like myself, who had positive experiences and left the industry happy, healthy and due to their own decision.

Interesting read about one escort's thoughts...

...Also, cats are awesome

The 'truth about selling sex' is that there probably is no 'truth'. Everyone's experiences must be unique, yet valid. Truth, lies, and everything in-between. I'm disappointed that this thread was revived and I'll be glad when it's allowed to be forgotten again...

Why Alex? Why do you feel this way as this is an interesting thread on a topic that has merit to discuss, to raise some awareness?

Granted, this is just a bullshit reviewboard (sorry, Mods...shhh, don't really mean it) where opinions are as common as assholes, but you are obviously personally affected by this topic...perhaps personally affected by the author of this book? Truth or not, in this industry, there is only your own experiences (ours as well) that colour your truth through perceptions and biases...

Ok, that was just gobbledygook...but I just wanted to dig a little to understand.
