That's stupid, should never be asked, always automatic change given.

When I do take out, regardless of bill amount I would just leave from zero up to a few bux for organizing my bags well or something.
I've actually been in bars where I've had to ASK for my change when it wasn't given to me.
The bimbo said "oh,did you want your change?" "uh,yes." let ME decide if I'm going to tip, which I would've btw,but NOT after
that kind of b.s.
I've worked in bars&restaurants and a tip should NEVER be asuumed, unless the customer has already so instructed.

I think it's necessary to tip about 50% of what you would normally tip.... Although I'm not so sure it's really expected of you...

I'm a pretty generous tipper - but you don't get something for nothing. That's my policy, anyway.

If somebody goes above and beyond in terms of special orders, extras, etc. I might tip them for outstanding service.

But if I do take-out, I'm not tipping somebody for walking to and from the kitchen and punching the cash register.

I will tip on take out but with a couple of conditions.

If it is ready at the time they said it would be ready and if the order is complete and accurate. I will give 15% on top.

If its not ready, has stuff missing or is just plain wrong then its a Zero from me.

I get take out fairly regularly and often frequent the same places so they have gotten to know me. I know they all share in the tips so I tip so that the people in the kitchen also get part of it.

I never tip when I am picking up take out. I am pretty sure putting a couple of styrofoam boxes in a plastic bag does not constitute service...
Exactly. Or when someone happens to ring in and pour my coffee.

If you're going to tip on take out then why not tip on everything you buy? Tipping on take out is ridiculous if it catches on, the hospitality business will start to loss business because people will be spending to much. Restaurant tip use to be 10% not anymore it's minimum is at least 15% and up.
