I've done lots of things for money I didn't like, but I never considered myself humiliated.

I've hated the job, hated my co-workers and hated the boss, but still took pride in how I did the job and performed to the my best ability. You learn something about yourself doing things you don't like.

What makes a job you don't like humiliating? Isn't it just what you make it?

Most humiliating moment in my working life was probably when my administrator told me that my very real fears about the possibility of thyroid cancer were 'nothing to worry about, because if you're going to get cancer, thyroid cancer is the BEST kind to get.....' That was in my former career, union position, benefits, etc. I much prefer being naked and sucking cock on my knees ON MY OWN TERMS to being treated like a lesser human being while fully clothed. Should that mofo ever show up on my doorstep, it would be the first occasion where I have EVER turned someone away.

... I do not like being told what to do to keep a job either I like being my own boss, I do not like a boss who is younger than me either. I suppose I am set in my ways (getting up there in age).

The hard truth is, as we get up there in age, the boss is usually younger. I'm self employed, but clients are "bosses", in a way, and all of my clients are younger than I am. However, courtesy goes a long way, and most of my clients are great. And as I look at some of my younger clients/bosses, and see what they have to do to survive in the corporate rat race, I am very grateful not to be in their shoes.

A surgeon once told me that the cancer I had was "the best kind to get". Not exactly the bedside manner I was looking for, but what the heck. He was a good surgeon, so I didn't fire him.

Yes...I would have accepted that from a surgeon, an oncologist, or a GP...not from someone whose experience was totally subjective based on ONE experience twenty years ago. To add some context, I only had the lump in my neck checked because a friend had been through hell and back because of malignant thyroid cancer. Due to a high degree of lymph node involvement and the advanced stage of her cancer. She and I had the same surgeon and I was glad to get him, because I KNOW he saved her life!

I had a boss who once treated me with great disdain even though I was always on time and hard working. I was always smiling and very considerate but the "tasks" he would give me to do were so menial, that it pushed me to the point of throwing a glass of pepsi in his face. I did not care, I just wanted to humiliate HIM for a change.

It depends on the person and what they consider humiliating. We have have our own standards, thresholds and breaking points. What is beneath one person may not be for another. My current job have have I wouldn't consider humiliating though it definitely underutilizes my talents. It does make it hard to go to sometimes but I take comfort in the fact if I don't do it nobody will and those who aytempt it can't graspe its scope and usually mess it up so it gives me a tremendous amount of value. Frustrating, sometimes yes, humiliating no.

You mean when the money is given directly? We all do things for money indirectly... . I find that the direct method seems to be more humiliating for the one paying than the one receiving. Some prefer the indirect method which in my opinon is much more dishonest but it seems to sugar coat the truth for those who need it. If it's humiliating then one can always stop I suppose. But truthfully we all have to survive and sometimes what we do for a payday isnt our ideal situation. Who wouldnt find cleaning public toilets a bit humiliating? But it's honest work. What's humiliating might be if we were all looking at the truth about these exchanges. I might find it humiliating to know that if I didnt pay someone in some form or another they would not find my company valuable enough to enjoy for free. (not referring to business arrangements like sps provide) There are certainly times where I have made choices that were somewhat humiliating however at the time necessary... Life has a way of making you pay for your mistakes.

The only time i remember feeling humiliated was when I produced some great work (by any standards, not just because it was mine) and it was demeaned and and not presented (which ultimately hurt the company, so I was vindicated).

The intentional attempt to undermine my ability because the boss was weak and felt threatened was what FELT humiliating. I vowed then never to make an employee feel less than part of a team and it has served me well. I've felt threatened by ambitious people, but they ultimately make bad career moves because they often over-estimate their own abilities and lack the insight to see a team works better than a one-man-band sometimes.

I have never seen the connection between humiliation and money. I have done things that are humiliating with and without money being involved. Money may make me do something humiliating but not make the act humiliating. I do think we all have a price
