I'd say iPhone is the better choice. Great hardware and applications / dev support. Android is a close second and gaining fast.

What are you primarily using the phone for ? Business or personal use?

Buy an unlocked Motorola Atrix 4G and put it on whatever network you are on unless its Bell who have the rights to them in Canada. I am with Rogers.

It is a kick ass phone and don't get me wrong, I love my Mac products. I got a tethering app and have it working with my laptop so I can use my 6 GB data plan from Rogers to its fullest.

I prefer android phones, but it really depends on the phone you are looking at. Some android phones suck.

I traded off my blackberry about 9 months ago. Now have an android based (sony ericsonn Xperia X10), I gotta say I'm not sorry I switched.
DA mentioned the apps in his post. iphone may have more apps overall, but so far I've found that android has more FREE apps. Again, depending on what you're gonna use the phone for, but I have found alot of the free apps very useful and some alot of fun.

I don't think I will have a lot of use for a lot of apps.
I get a lot of use out of the apps I have either bought or use for free:

drop box - put a doc in your folder on your laptop and voila it appears on your phone within seconds. perfect for hotel reservations, airline stuff etc etc

co-pillot live - turn by turn with voice turns your android into a stand alone GPS

easytether pro - connect your laptop anywhere there is a cellular signal and have 3 - 3.5 G or even HSUPA download speeds

Flighttrack - plug in your flight itinerary's and it updates itself if a flight is delayed etc + give gate info which is premium if you are in a very large airport.

Package tracker pro - track your fedex, ups, usps, canadapost packages on the fly easily and accurately

Places on my Motorola Atrix. Damn valuable if you are in a distant city and want a Starbucks! type in latte and it pops up all the local coffee shops. Went off a bit when in the Okanagan last week. I was looking for a certain winery and it did not compute.

Pocket Wallet - load it up with all your passwords etc and has strong encryption.

Those are my top used apps. Plenty more out there too.

Interesting....

I'm with Telus and had signed up for my most recent 3 year plan in Dec 2009. I stopped in last week to ask about new phones and a technology upgrade. The guy told me that because I still have 1.5 years left in my contract, I would have to pay $90 to get out of my contract and then I would be able to sign onto a new contract. I replied that in the past I was on Rogers and Rogers offered a technology upgrade after one year. He said that the CRTC has become really strict and with the carriers and you can't 'add-on' to a current contract and no contract can be longer then 3 years.

Anybody have these issues? I'm not in a hurry to get something new (my current phone is a basic flip phone), but don't necessarily want to wait another 1.5 years.

Depends on what you want to do with your phone. Do you like virtual keyboards or do you want actual keys to press. Iphones are a lot more limited in what you can do you with it but you can always jailbreak it. With my android phone I can download mp3's or torrents or anything else. I can control my bit torrent client with it and my xbmc set-up. If I wanted I can also play PS1 games on it. All things i cannot do with a stock iphone.

There is also the issue that in a few months a new iphone will be released, of course you might be able to buy an iphone 4 pretty cheaply.

Telus has a new upgrade path.

Upgrade your mobile device during your contract
You can replace or upgrade your TELUS device at a discounted price during your contract.

With Clear and Simple Device Upgrades, you can replace your damaged device or upgrade to the next latest and greatest model by paying an upgrade fee based on the previous device discount you received.

What you need to know
TELUS discounts the cost of your device when you sign up on a one, two, or three year-term.

Simply pay the Early Device Upgrade fee and get a new device at full discount. This fee is calculated based on the discount you originally received when your contract began, and the number of months remaining in your contract. The longer you wait, the lower your fee.

NOTE: The Early Device Upgrade fee may be waived if you are at or near the end of your contract.

You have a TELUS Postpaid account. If you have a TELUS Prepaid account, see how you can upgrade your phone.
You are not upgrading for a second time during the first six months of your contract.
You are credit qualified
You are not on the Credit Limit Program.

I have a Galaxy S and previously I had one of the first Nexus, I grabbed it out of the States in 2009. I also had an iPad and gave it away the day the XOOM hit Canada.

The iPhone is legendary. The iPad is fun. Apple changed the landscape, changed the world. However, the Android is a much more practical software platform, at least for me. USB, HDMI on the Xoom. Supports Flash, VPN, RDC, Word, Excel, no software needed to connect to a PC and I didn't have to plug it in to another computer to make it work.............. It worked out of the box. Connection to Exchange is solid, cotacts, calendar, multiple email accounts.........

Apple invented it, Google (Android) will steal the idea and make it better.
