Tablet deathmatch: Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs. iPad 2

Samsung's Android 3.1-based tablet is the first to give Apple's iPad a real run for its money -- most of the time

For a good year now, we've been hearing about devices that would give the iPad a real run for its money, only to find the claims hollow. The closest contender thus far has been the Motorola Xoom, but it suffered too many shortcomings to give Steve Jobs cause to sweat. Now, however, the iPad has its first credible alternative: Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, a stellar improvement over Samsung's first effort, the awkward Galaxy Tab 7.

I have IPad 2 and love it. Even though I don't like the name, I am a Mac person:)

I have an Ipad2 and Asus Eepad (Android). Both are great, but the Asus supports flash and is easy to customize. More apps for the Ipad2 (easy to use out of the box), but lots of apps coming into the Android market.

The Asus comes with an optional dock interface with an external keyboard (fabulous), great 10"+ screen and 16gig, plus Cloud capability.

It's a toss-up for me, but the cost of the Asus is $499 including the dock interface or $399 without.

the ipad2 is the best tablet on the market no doubt. but i am not an apple person whatsoever, and knew i wouldn't really use any tablet i got to its full potential (other than surfing). so i held off buying one for a long time. well, it paid off as i was one of the lucky few that snagged a 30gb hp touchpad from best buy for $150 when they had their fire sale. nowhere near the capabilities of the ipad2, but it fits my needs.... and it cost $600 less. :clap2:

I also have the Asus transformer and it is great and it has the same apps as the Samsung. What the difference between the 2 is the just the fit and finish

Maybe wait until there are some Android 4 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich) devices on the market. Android 4 was just released recently and is Google's first real operating system for tablets. Honeycomb was just a temporary hack of their cell phone-centric OS.

Samsung has already released a phone with the new OS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Nexus. We should see tablets with the new OS very soon. These will hopefully be in the same league as the Ipad2.

Oh oh, can I join in this geeky thread?
Love it.....

I don't know how many times I've been saying this, but iPad is awesome.
I love it soo much that I should almost accept iTune credit as a mean of payment.... No no please don't.

I love my iPad for reliability, speed, capacity, potential, size, looks, name, taste, whatever.
When I go on a tour, all I need is iPad.
I have books in iPad, music in iPad, you can even use it as a little laptop table if you are a messy muffin eater.

I have the 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, I dont think its ready for prime time. Youtube app freezes all the time and the browser shuts down by itself quite often. I would stick with IPAD.

Blackberry Playbook just went on sale yesterday for $199 for 16GB.
You'll have to hunt around though, most places are out of stock.

I have a Galaxy Tab as well. Mine works fine, I haven't had any issues with the browser shutting down. I'm very happy with it. It can do everything an iPad can do and I prefer the android interface.
