Hello Everyone,
My name is Roseline and I am the program coordinator of Shift. Shift is a program in Calgary that offers support services to people in the sex trade. The program is open to men, women and trans-gendered/sexual persons. We are available to support people who work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
The mission of Shift is:
Utilizing a harm reduction and rights based approach, Shift works with adults involved in to assist in improving quality of life and reaching individualized goals.
Shift works from a harm reduction and rights based approach. We advocate for safer working conditions and believe that people in the sex trade should have the same human and legal rights as anyone else. Part of our program intent is to provide an opportunity for people involved in these occupations to improve their quality of life and have access to quality health information and safer sex supplies. We will provide education in areas of harm reduction and human and legal rights (including court accompaniment). Shift is also working to provide skills training and educational development by partnering and referring to other agencies in Calgary who are offering these services. While doing this work we hope to be able to address some key advocacy issues facing sex trade workers in Calgary. Our intention is to assist individuals with their own self identified goals. We are not targeting people in the sex trade to provide them with exit strategies (unless this is an identified goal).
Some things we can provide are:
- Free and discreet access to condoms, flavored condoms, lube, and dental dams;
- Free presentations (informal or formal) on safer sex, protection against HIV and other STI’s (sexually transmitted infections);
- Information on how improve overall health and quality of life and;
- Support and referrals.
