Join PACE Society on Saturday December 17 for International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. PACE Soceity have curated a panel of speakers, including leading figures in the sex worker rights movement, researchers, and others. We will be dispelling the myths and educating the public about sex work and the types of violence faced by sex workers. Following the panel, FIRST will lead a march through the Downtown Eastside and Gastown.

WHEN: Saturday December 17, 2016
TIME: 1pm - 5:30 pm (Sign making will begin at 4pm, and the march will depart from PACE Society at 4:30pm)
WHERE: PACE Society at 148 W. Hastings St., Vancouver

Speakers include: Jenny Kwan, NDP MP - Lorimer Shener, author of "That Lonely Section of Hell" - Jamie Lee Hamilton - Afrodykie Zoe - Kerry Porth - & more.

Refreshments & a light snack will be served.

Hello Justin Trudeau

Today is International Day to End Violence to Sex Trade Workers. This should be cause for bringing up the topic of Bill C36, currently the law of the land in Canada. My opinion is that this law is detrimental to the health and safety of sex trade workers. The previous government touted the Swedish model ignoring that Sweden is a nation with a robust system of benefits for it's citizens. Workers in Sweden have options like free education, free job training along with reasonable financial support while they retrain. Canada's system is much less robust.

I want you to imagine a day in the life of a sex trade worker Mr Trudeau. Phone calls & emails day and night, some which are threatening and advocate gratuitous violence against the worker. Imagine woman may have children and she performs sex acts to feed them often because of toothless laws against fathers who refuse to pay support. Imagine the fear of having to enter a house to perform an intimate act with a complete stranger. Imagine the emotional destruction of being a woman & living in a world filled with real threats and being referred to as whore, skank, slut, cum bag, damaged goods, etc. And Mr Trudeau, imagine being on the other end of the comment "raping a prostitute isn't rape it's just theft of services". Imagine the disappointment when a STW decides to leave the industry only to find the local government slashed all the services to help her out. Imagine being verbally and physically abused by a client only to have to move on to the next appointment without time to emotionally heal. And imagine when you reach out for help there is no empathy, it's mostly just hate & ridicule.

Now imagine that person is Sophie.
