but if you look at all the weather extremes:

Biggest heat period: Marble Bar, West Australia » 37°C or more 162 days in a row (from October 30 th 1923 to April 7 th 1924)

The two highest temperatures on earth and for an extended period of time were 80 + years ago

Lowest temperature: Vostok Station, Antarctica » -89.6°C (July 31 st 1983)

The lowest temp was just 20 + years ago.

Perhaps all this is cyclical trends for the earth. We will again approach the heat record once every 80 years then drop off to the cold record over that next 60 year period. Perhaps.. just thinking...
