Samosa Garden is export Indian. Owners are followers of Agha Khan Muslim, and the food is more of a West African blend, Kenya I believe.

Not bad food, but tamed down for Caucasian palate. Buffet is fairly mild, even their hot is medium compared to most of the Indian Restaurants.

Sitar is good but they have also Westernized. Most Indian clients I've taken there have enjoyed the food, but most have liked Maurya better.
As a point of interest, not one Indian client I have taken to Touch of India on Robson has liked the food. The previous Indian Consul liked the place so it was used for visitors. Soon as he left they found a new place to eat.

I wouldn't expect anything decent or authentic downtown (or Burnaby lol). Go to a place where everyone is EI and no one, including the staff speaks English, and the place is busy and you are getting good food. It should also be reasonably priced, not expensive or it is probably also marketed for Western tastes.
Also, you can pick up uncooked tandoori spiced chicken and other prepared foods in these areas and take it home.

If the OP likes medium, hot & spicy, that is. I like Tasty Sweet in Surrey, near 80th and Scott Rd, because I used to go to the lunch buffet which they did away with, :-(. Been to a few places around 41-49 and Fraser in the past. South Vancouver, Fraser street area, probably closer for you, gina. If you aren't sure if you like very spicey food, then get started with the downtown ones, as mentioned in the post I quoted where the cusine is a bit more westernized.

Right, House of Dosa. So is Chutney Villa and if on Fourth Ave. try Annapurna just off Burrard.
