In WWII, the British were launching a campaign that was destined to end up with a lot of causalities. Paratroopers were going to jump at night into muddy fields behind enemy lines. One of the dangers was that their rifles would end up full of mud. To protect their weapons and to help build up the morale of the troops, Churchill ordered very large condoms to be made to cover the gun barrels. He had these stamped "One medium condom, made in England"
