In Your Wildest Dreams!
Erica, I am so sorry for your loss. It brings back tears and memories of my dog. I planted a special tree in his memory and I walk by it every day. They are better than family and friends in some regards, less judgmental and love you unconditionally. May your memories be long and fond.
Willie spent the first 5 years of his life roaming the Englishman River Estuary with me, pretty much at will. His ashes will be scattered there.

That seems like a perfect thing to do.

Unconditional love.
That's what dogs give us. Too bad we can't all learn from their example.
You'll never have a more loyal friend Erica.

So sorry Erica.
I had the same tough decision when my buddy "Max" the cat had a minor stroke shortly after moving last May.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
Spent the day out and about yesterday to distract ourselves from looking at the spot where Willie's bed was. As he always does, when we came back, Basil ran up to the car to greet us. It was my joke that he was waiting to check Willie out so he would know where we had been without him. He'd sniff Willie's head, and feet, and wind about him; maybe take a little 'pat pat' at him. He stood looking at the back door of the car, waiting for me to let the dog out of the car; looking at me, then back at the door, before he finally ran inside...

it is really hard on you to lose a friend like this. I had a Lovebird that was with me for over 15 years. She was such a wonderful companion and brought me much joy.
She died in November 2015 after a 6 month illness. Was tough for a few weeks.

the bird hospital sent me a card and i wish to share part of it with you here.

As time passes, we may take comfort in the realization that animals
unconditionally give us an abundance of love, friendship
loyalty, and happiness throughout our experiences with them.
These shared lessons will remain with us
and warm our hearts forever.

When a pet dies, We are naturally Saddened and feel much pain in our hearts.
