Per DSK oops IMF figures :), Japan's GDP per Capita is about $ 34K while that of South Korea is not that far behind at almost $ 32K.

China's GDP per capita is about $ 8K. The latter might be a powerhouse in international trade but when you divide the earnings by its population that's what you get. While the US is still 5x that of China. ;)

Japan and Korea has higher standard of living than here... at least in terms of normal everyday use technology, life-style, etc.

China.... the quality of living is much lower than hear on average (assuming you're not super rich).

I recently learned that in China you don't own any land ( think it's a 99 year lease or something like that). So when you buy a house, what it sits on is not really yours. So the Chinese love to buy places in Canada... Apparently the Chinese government is considering a change to this but nothing's happened yet.

Not really. The level of wealth required to even consider emigrating overseas eliminates a much larger percentage of Chinese than either Japanese of South Korean. Then qualifying as a non-refugee immigrant into Canada raises a number of barriers that I suspect (but am uncertain of) make those that are not highly educated or have significant funds to invest less likely to make it through the process.

I suspect that one big reason for the greater number of Chinese immigrants today is as a result of the greater number of Chinese immigrants in the past & the family ties that draw more people from China to join their extended family here.
That makes sense.
You educational level matters when it comes with immigration.
It is one pain in ass process, irritated me, pissed me off, and exhausted me, and my situation was not the most difficult case due to educational and career background.
Considering I'm pretty good at speaking English (I'm not the best writer though) I remember my reading ability just made it to the accepted level for immigration. And I have f***ing post secondary degrees. So it even needs good financial background in your family to support you for language training as well.

I would love to have more Japanese immigrating to Victoria.
I don't have a single good Japanese friend in victoria as they all went back to Japan!

Maybe that might help Victoria in getting some more authentic Japanese tasting restaurants as well :) But then again, having more Japanese people hasn't helped Vancouver in having better quality Japanese food!
