Just think, some people actually like to vote for an actual person in their riding, not just their party =p

Who am I kidding, i'll vote for whomever shows up on my doorstep and hands me a wonderful brochure full of informative reasons for why they are so right for the job =)

Wouldn't it be ideal if people could actually vote for the person in their riding and then a separate vote for the PM?

It's not like there is a lot of choice. Mulcair or Trudeau - - - who will do the least damage, clearly Trudeau. People have the same situation that they had when Mulroney swept into power. Some people forget the reason that Mulroney trounced Turner - - - it was all about patronage appointments. Some which stunk almost as much as the appointment of Mike Duffy. When Chretien trounced Mulroney's replacement Kim Campbell, it was because he came out with his "Red Book". The Conservatives were reduced to 2 seats and weren't even an official Federal party.

Things that disgust people - - - like Mike Duffy - - - are what makes these huge, unexpected changes. The polling had Kim Campbell and Jean Chretien running neck and neck, the result was Campbell's Conservatives 2 - Chretien's Liberals 177. Polling is only correct when the voter has no reason to be disgusted with the politicians.

Whoever has the best chance to defeat the Conservative in my riding. I never vote "for" any available party; I vote for the least objectionable.

I said it before, the only way Trudeau will win is if he can get the youth to vote. Of course, he will alienate the ma and pa kettle's of the world in the process.

This is a really difficult question to answer, simply because it isn't really about voting the party want to be in power anymore it is all about stragetic voting. If you oppose the Conversatives and want them out you can't go with your heart and vote for the Green Party because chances are they will split with the NDP and/or Liberals causing the Conservatives to take the riding because of first past the post. But since the question is asking who I would vote for it the election happened tomorrow, I guess I would have to go Liberal. Trudeau has more charisma then Mulcair and Harper combined and he is basically political royalty for this country. That doesn't mean he is the best option, but he is the lesser of all evils ;)

the problem with Canada in generally is that we have very few options with many things: politicians, union reps, insurance, etc.

I am getting pretty close to choosing to spoil my ballot for the first time in my life. Since I have been eligible to vote(about a quarter of a century) I have missed only one election because I couldn't figure out where to vote

Trudeau (le pere) was elegant, brilliant, untouchable and very distant from the problems of everyday people. He did more harm than good. Nonetheless, I do admire him for how he conducted himself, raising his boys during his latter years in power while Maggie went traipsing around. His son maintains some of the Trudeau charisma but I also think "charisma" is often overrated. Furthermore, he really trades on the "Trudeau" name but lacks experience. The liberal contingent shows itself to be quite shallow when they have to put Trudeau (le fils) in relief.

I grew to become a believer in Stephen Harper starting from the days when he carefully mended the two factions of conservatism in this country to carrying on in two minority governments and finally in a majority one. He comes across as very very solid, a wonderful family man who also possesses a good deal of integrity. He has been in office a long time now. He has taken Canada through earthshaking economic times with hardly a scratch. Compared to the USA and the western European nations, Canada is in pretty good shape both socially and economically. I think he will relinquish his position before the next election and allow the (conservative) party to choose a new leader. I expect that the conservative party will be voted back into power partly due to its previous excellent record and partially due to the lack of a viable opposition.

Did he actually just write that!??!

KING Harper? Integrity? Really??!?!

Did you see this guy respond in question period yesterday? Twenty-six questions from the Opposition parties and no answers, just more excuses and rhetoric. Looks to me like his days are numbered, no matter how many asshats from the Calgary and Toronto business community will re-elect him in 2015.

Harper may be a few things (very few) but integrity is not something he possesses. He sees himself as an absolute ruler, so if that turns you on keep licking his boots!

I will vote for the political party that I can get to pay me to vote for them. The more they pay me, the more I will go out of my way to campaign for them. So the ball is in their court.

So far I seem like the one making the donations!! If it works out for you, let me know!!! :D

Ahhh, you mistake Canada for a Democracy my friend.

Unfortunately, anyone voting NDP, Green, Spoiling their ballot or just refusing to vote will only hand another Victory to the Republican Party of Canada.

What happened to you, you used to make sense?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrity

If he hands the reigns over before the election, it would not be for any forward thinking new blood ideology, it would be because he understands just how truly hated he is by the majority of Canadians. The Canadian GOP didn’t win the last election, the NDP and Libs lost it, they need to merge and tell the unions to go F**K themselves to beat Dr. Evil.
You sir are an idiot of the highest order if you think that the NDP/Libs lost the last election. The last election was a MASSIVE win for the NDP who ran one of the most effective campaignes in Canadian electoral history.it was so effective that ALL the seats the NDP won in Quebec were won because all of the voters were convinced that they were individually voting for Jack Layton as the MP.It also helped that those same voters felt disenfranchised from the rhetoric of the Bloc.As for the liberals
the party feilded a leader who was weaker than Mother Teresa on her deathbed. An academic who mostly spent his entire working life in the USA and who purported to extoll Canadian values and listened to Canadians and then shoved his views down the throats of the electorate. In short Ignatieff was allmost as weak as the previous liberal leader Stephan Dion who was a total pussy-wimp and cam across with his "green shift" platform which was a cleverly disguised NEP all over again.

Before Dion and Ignatieff there was Paul Martin who I do give credit too for being a very good finance minister even though
he had a tough fucking job to do under the tax and spend/spend liberals.Sadly he got the party leadership just as the shit hit the fan vis-a-vis Ad-Scam and he got reduced from a majority to a minority and I dont need to go on about that.

Dont even say anything about Mulcair as he is a fucking joke.Nothing but a total asshat clownshoes idiot who has tried to pander to both Quebec and it's agenda as well as to the Ontairio Union vote and all the while blaming the energy industry for the rise of the Canadian dollar.Next election sees Mulcair kicked out of Stornaway with Justin Tredeau taking the house key off him and most likely spending $300,000 of tax payer dollars to have the place re-decorated.

The biigest cause of public opinion with regards to Canadian politics is the elephant in the room which is the senate scandal. It is a total joke and it should have been taken care of 8 months ago with Duffy/Wallin/Brazeau being instantly FIRED for the outright THEFT of taxpayer funds. The liberal senator Mac Harb paid back the $250,000 he owed and resigned immediately
and most likey because the liberal party brass told him to do so as he would be forgotten by the leftist liberal media
quite quickly and they would be free to rake the muck upon the PC party/senators..though none of the PC senators have had actual fraud charges leveled against them though Mac Harb is facing them.No attention to him though as he quit and shut his mouth.

Personally I truly pity Canada if the electorate see fit the elect Tredeau or Mulcair as Prime Minister. This country will go down the toilet faster than the decline of the USA under the watch of Obama.
