Iconic Art Work from Music Albums?

If you were to make a framed picture of ONE very special album of music that you enjoy, which single album would you choose?

I will be framing one single Vinyl album cover of music I enjoy and have been a bit stumped as to which one I would choose.

I'm wondering which album and artwork were or are special to you?

I've got a list which may seem all over the map but it reflects the wide variety of music I listen to either on vinyl or via digitally.

Beatles - Sgt Peppers and Abbey Road

U2 Joshua Tree

Stones - Sticky Fingers

Police - Synchronicity

Led Zeppelin IV

Aerosmith

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You were (artwork on Wish you were here is amazing)

Dave Matthews Band

Tina Turner

Stevie Wonder

Temptations

Then I have a selection of Blues, R&B, Soul, Motown, Philly Soul, Funk, Classical Jazz, Modern day Jazz, Classical, Three Tenors, head banging music, and some Punk bands etc that I have seen live in concert

I have plenty of other ideas but wondered which one album stuck out in your mind from years ago or recently that you would frame and put on your wall.

One album? It's a very tough choice for me. Not my taste in music but what's your single album to choose?

Obviously it's a tough choice for me. :)

Beatles White Album....no that's no good.
I'd say either Physical Graffiti or the pencil drawing on 10cc The Original Soundtrack.
I have a coffee table book of Hipgnosis album covers. They were great.

interesting question badbadboy, but why have one when you can frame them all?
Urban Outfitters sells album frames for cheap for $10 or less.
I say dedicate a feature wall within your house and frame those beautiful works of art.

now, back to album covers.
every generation has its iconic cover and every genre has its own visual language.
the classics you listed above are all excellent. your taste is diverse which perhaps reflects your personality
so to limit yourself to ONE is a disservice.

imo, the artwork sometimes falls flat in comparison to the music and vice versa.
was never a fan of the ubiquitous 'group shot' (exception would be Ramones).
let's be honest, some of these rock n roll guys were quite downright ugly. they only became attractive
because of the shitloads of money they made and the enviable lifestyle they lived.
but is that a good reason to post their mugshot on every album made? I think not.

me personally, I like the more interpretive approach to album covers.
but that's hard to find in the 'classic' genre because every Paul, John, Ringo and George opted
to have their mugs plastered on the cover, and xtra large size if I may add.

but if I had to choose one (for me), I really liked the London Calling (The Clash) cover.
the grainy black and white image of Strummer about to lay a beating to his axe was and still is iconic to this day.
a close second choice would be the wall (Pink Floyd) with the splattered writing.
conceptually, I think it reflected the songs of the album with its angry tone. it's really quite brilliant.

I was also into jazz from the 50's and 60's.
Davis, Monk, Coltrane, Baker, Rollins…that whole genre was amazing musically and
so were the album covers. google blue note record cover for reference.

I decided on one only because my wall space is already quite limited. It's full of concert photos, some signed pictures by the artists and also some personal photos.

Some great suggestions so far and I have most of the jazz albums mentioned on vinyl already. All of them would look amazing as a set but the square footage is already limited.

Agreed regarding Pink Floyd's Wish you were here album - There's a lot going on Front, back and inside covers. Not sure if I'd use the Burning man, or the Lake..
But another cover that I think is good is Supertramp's Even in the Quietest Moments:

Great post. It was the pics from Wish You were here that I considered.

In the vinyl sleeve is the Burning Man on nice paper but it is not (currently ??) on the actual album cover which is fancy coloured plastic. Now the guy in the lake doing a headstand is a bit of a joke with the photographer and Roger Waters + David Gilmour. If you watch the documentary of "The making of Wish you were here"; Waters and Gilmour questioned all the travel to far away places to get these pictures on their dime. So as a bit of cheek, the guy in the lake pic is in the vinyl album as a postcard. I laughed when I opened the vinyl and saw it.

Album covers as an art form is almost lost.
There were some phenomenal covers in the seventies and eighties. Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road or Godley/Creme Consequences with the big books inside full of art is an example. Led Zeppelin III with the wheel and cutouts is another.
CDs will never match that.

Godley and Creme were ahead of their time, worrying about the environment back in the seventies!
