The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner show on Sunday afternoons.
The Tillicum Mall in Victoria used to be a drive-in, with a flea market on Sundays.
It was okay for Dad to have a beer while he drove you to the beach.
There was a Smitty's Pancake House in Yale.
A long distance phone call was over a dollar a minute.
Afros were cool.

I remember when you could park and cross the train tracks down to Britannia Beach. The area was clothing optional, at least until the residents would come peeping, sometimes with teenagers in tow, suggesting that we might want to put our clothes back on.

I love this thread! Thank you, asstroglider, for reviving it.
I'll try not to repeat anything, but here are some things that I remember:

When you could buy cigarettes from a vending machine.
As a newspaper delivery boy, I lost customers when The Province started publishing on Sundays instead of Saturdays.
Nanaimo Street going north from Kingsway down the hill wasn't paved (I broke my foot once when I fell on the gravel on the side of the road).
The first Sony Betamax machine with a wired remote that only scanned forward or backward.
There used to be a government run vehicle inspection station on Alberni and Bidwell where they would test your car to ensure that all the lights, brakes, tires, etc. were good ( I got a ticket from a cop one time for my car being too loud and I had to pass the inspection before I could re-insure my vehicle).
Postal codes were just a number as opposed to the six character designation that is being used now.
Outlaws, The Smilin' Buddha, Coconuts, and other pubs/night clubs.
A&A Records on the corner of Smythe and Granville.
Some restaurants had coin operated juke boxes at every booth.
Leaded gasoline.
Some record players had a 78 rpm speed.
The big hunks of furniture that doubled as an entertainment centre. One side had a record player in it, the other side had the radio and volume controls, there was a TV screen in the middle, and the speakers were built into the chassis on each side of the TV screen.
Sears, The Bay, and Eaton's used to have big, thick catalogues for summer, winter, and Christmas.

I hope you guys and girls enjoy/remember my thoughts.
I would like to read more of yours. Cheers!

I remember that vehicle testing station on Alberni and Bidwell, too. Must've been the only one in town as we had to drive from Richmond to go there...although, they might've had one in Richmond at a later date; just before they switched over to the useless Air Care system. Anyway, wish they would bring the testing stations back. It was a great way to get your car checked over for cheap by a 'neutral' party.

I remember the Monte Cristo sandwiches at the cafe in the Skyline Hotel in Richmond (soon to be demolished, I've heard)...never had a Monte Cristo that good anywhere else, except the cafe at Vancouver Vocational Institute, whose name has been changed.

I remember when it was a 20 minute drive from Richmond to downtown, and hitchhiking was fast and easy!

Damn I remember when Sandi Laine did not know about squirting or fisting. Oh the memories of Sarah who I found in the paper fucked all night and I had to go get her a mikeshake after ever time she came. I bought 9 mikeshakes that night. She held the record until the new Russian lady showed up.

Oh you guys had to start this remembering thing....

My in-laws still have this contraption. Except I don't think it has the TV, just a record player and radio. And freakin huge.

I recall when adapter boxes came out so you could have remote control on your TV. (Adjust volume and channels only). First time I saw one was in the 70's, at my cousin's house. It said RCA Space Control or something like that. I didn't know what it was. I picked it up and started pressing buttons, then looking at the sky to see what was happening. He asked me if I wanted to watch TV. (You still had to turn it on/off manually). Then I realized what it was.

French channel. After 10pm, dirty movies!!!
