Don't get the subject title wrong. Review boards became very necessary and a must, but there was a time where while they were helpful it was almost always safe to call up a girl whose ad caught your eye and it would be a for certain good experience. No bullshit, GFE meant what it meant. No ripoffs or scams. You were also comfortable sharing where you lived and in some cases were pleasantly surprised to find out some sp's either lived or operated in close proximity where you could walk to them for a session. There was no Pooners vs Service Providers hostility, and there was almost like a more community feel. Like we were watching out for each other. If I knew of a pooner who was garbage person I'd be able to share this with girls I knew and if there was a girl who was trouble, then SP's would warn us. Word of mouth.

There was also a time when everyone's full name, complete address, and phone number were placed in a giant white book and given freely to everyone who had a door step.

Though I'm curious, was this time when the Georgia Straight was the only place you could find printed escort ads?

In Victoria it was Monday Magazine. The fake pics were of "stars" like Brittney Spears. It was definitely more of a crap shoot in terms of what menu items were on offer.

I think it was from googling the legality/enforcement of tricking in Vancouver that I discovered PERB and subsequently LL. Must’ve lurked and contemplated a few years before booking an SP here in the city. I’ve never had an issue other than poor chemistry as I only see ladies who are well reviewed here or adjacent to those who are. I don’t think I would be cut out for this lifestyle without boards—if being robbed, rolled, or otherwise screwed over was a frequent occurrence as it would be too stressful/unpleasant.

Still lost in the '60s

There were also ads for escorts in the Buy and Sell weekly. Of course, you called them from a nearby pay phone booth.

Its called Golden Age fever. Anyone living in the present romanticizes a previous era.

I think about Friday nights pulling up to Blockbuster and grabbing new release or week rentals. Popping popcorn and having a cozy movie night with my family.

I bet people in the 90's thought the 80's was more simple. And people in the 80's reminisce about the free love 60's. Same for music. People always think older music is better.

The first escort I had was actually with a girlfriend at the time who was Bi and wanted a threesome, so she arranged the whole thing. This was either in 2004 or 2005. We did this a couple of times and then it wasn't until 2006 or 2007 when I booked a lady on my own through Craigslist. Never got ripped off during those days, and SP'S back then were generally more transparent about their rates, services, restrictions, and approximate location. There was no need to ask questions, you just knew you wanted to see the person and you'd call, introduce yourself and youd ask about availability, and it wasn't awkward at all.

Nope. There were ads in the yellow pages.

Swedish Touch was nothing but a ripoff ever since they moved from Hornby.

Same thing in Winnipeg in the 80's. Incalls and outcalls listed in the Yellow Pages. What a simpler time.

My recollection is that in Victoria, late 90's, early 2000's there was a pretty strong collection of ladies working the street (industrial area). I didn't participate in that scene, not sure when it disappeared.

High end massage places like the Swedish Touch had Yellow Pages ads, but not independent escorts. They used the Buy and Sell.
In Vancouver, the free papers with escort ads were West Ender for west side and Vancouver Courier for east side.
Yeah... that doesn't sound like better days to me. So you just called, and hoped they show up and not bring along a dozen cops or thugs?
I don't know. It doesn't sound much like golden times to me. Was this the same era where everyone kept their front doors unlocked, and children played in traffic until sunset?

If you're missing the buddy buddy community feel of pooners, we can set up a quarterly board meet up.
