A couple of weeks ago I get this phone call. The caller on the other end tells me his name is Stephen something. He tells me he has been going through garbage bins near places were they sell lottery tickets and checking if anybody has thrown away a winning ticket. He says he found one and when he checked it he discovered that it was a winning ticket for $20000. But he also tells me that the ticket had my name and phone number on it and he could not claim the prize. So in short, if I give him a finders fee of $1000 he will return the ticket.

One major problem, I haven't bought a lotter ticket in years....
Can't believe anybody would think this con would work....

Next thing i know my neighbors had the same thing happen to them and their homes broken into.

But if you're an 80 year old grandma you'd be off to the bank right now. Sad

Hopefully the police will catch up with this jerk before he victimizes any body.

Yup, this guys probably pulled something like this in the past and there's probably several people who fallen for it.

I hope you brought this scam to the Vancouver Police's attention. Give them
a heads up so they can warn others as well. Quite recently a home was
broken into by an individual who claimed he was working for Hydro.
Very authentic looking letterhead & business card too. Hydro didn't know
about this incident until it was reported on a news channel.

I never answer unfamiliar numbers on my landline for this reason - too
many people out there eager to dip their hands in your wallet.

I'd hate to say it but anyone who falls for this 6/49 scam almost deserved to be scammed. Greed gets you every time.

There are a lot of seniors out there who need to be protected from this type of scam as they could easily be persuaded to open their doors / wallets / purses to some of these types of scammers.

There are stories in the news quite regularly about seniors being taken in because they trusted someone like this.

If you were 75 yrs old, on a meager pension and someone gave you the hope that you had won $20 grand, you'd likely fall for it too.

Here in Winnipeg, they would have asked him to drop his finder fee to $750.

(Winnipeg joke, 'cause we're so cheap here...)
