Was going through the thread and saw one that mentioned guns. Guns for hunting. Hunting deer, elk and other large animals with guns. I was thinking that with our human technology (guns and ammo) its way too easy for hunters to get game.
I am more in the notion of something like crossbow or bow hunting, something that would take/develop more skill(s). Not saying hunting with a gun is not skillful, but it puts humans on a more level ground when hunting animals. Not that I would advocate using rocks and spears to hunt them, as that would be a lot more dangerous.

There's a lot of skill, as well as more than a small amount of luck involved with any kind of hunting - let alone target shooting in general.

Mind you, there's also the subset of "hunters" whom are little more than poachers; they've got quite a few tricks to ensure success...
Most of the skill and luck involves being in the same place as the animal

On the flip side, since bow hunting does require a large amount of skill and continued practice to keep accurate I think you would find alot of wounded and maimed animals if every hunter was only able to hunt with a bow.

That’s because your in that animals living room.....nothing moves into your house without you knowing it.
Bingo we have a winner!! Please don't let that secret out to the hunting community.

Second, if you want to have even a sneaking chance of success, don't go where everyone
else has just gone rambo through that area. Go camping instead and leave ur guns
at home. They won't be worth a cast iron pan's hope without a handle on it.

Pre trip the area you want to hunt if at all possible a couple of weeks or so before
hunting season. Get a "feel" for the landscape, game trails, bedding places where
deer, moose or elk bed during the day or night. Find their feeding grounds and look
where scat is the most plentiful.

Pray to god the time and effort you put in doing this isn't invaded by hoards
of hunters when you arrive. LOL!!!

you've found a promising area that doesn't seem widely used. OK, use that
bit of luck wisely. Glass the area out in the morning. Early mid day and then
again late evening. If you happen to be walking through that area to
inspect, tie up some thread across game trails about waist high to see
if in the next day or so they are broken, keep your eyes open for hair tufts
on the trees beside every game trail you find.

Now when you finally decide to hunt that area for the day don't go in smelling
like Joe''s diner from the night before. Try to smell like the environment you are
going into and that doesn't mean standing in front of someones DRYER VENT
the day before wafting in all the fucking GAIN laundry detergent smell
labelled "Mother Nature".. :ROFLMAO:
The best way to "CAMO SMELL PROOF" your body is to cook on open fires.
The smoke from the fire masks your smelly human body odor very well
from the Irish spring soap you doused yourself with a couple of days beforehand.
Best of all don't even shower with soap of any kind a couple of days before you go hunting.
Get upwind if at all possible of any animal you hunt.
Stay camo'd to the best of your ability and maybe lady
luck will be on your side.

See, it's not all that hard to go hunting. Best of luck and enjoy.

Last time I went out hunting was with a blackpowder .54 cal Hawkins type Pedersoli rifle.
Love the smell of black powder in the morning.
Got my black bear just outside of Merritt.

And to Zippy, easily said but not always the case. You have in a lot cases got to make
that luck happen. As our good friend Sy just pointed out above.
You are in THEIR living room now. (y)

If I go hunting out of my territory and pass through a large town on my trip......for some strange reason, I always seem to have the scent of a Strippers perfume on myself.

That's what usually happens when you hunt 'small game' - like pussies

The problem with most hunters is that they are impatient and lazy and can’t be quiet for more than 5 minutes so they road hunt and rely on blind luck 90% of the time.
you can get on - hunting BC- and read for weeks on the topic but to do better than just blind luck, spend time scouting, don’t just look for animals look for tracks and learn how to identify recent ones. Learn to identify likely habitat. After that find a spot you like, get there 2 hours before dark, sit down, shut up, and leave the Doritos at home because they will hear them.
Identifying fresh track has its tricky side of course. Things like weather is a huge proponent to getting
it right. A rainy day can really spoil any signs of fresh track so makes it quite hard to identify new from
old. Snow on the other hand can be the hunters full house if he plays his cards right. Or better
like a four of a kind of royal flush even but thats rare.

Nice to see fresh track if it just started snowing very early that morning and you spot track on
top of the snow. You are possibly in range. Sit down, shut up and listen for a minute or two
and see if you can hear your quarry walking along ahead of you.

It's a great help to being able to identify that fresh track and gives you a feeling of great
hope you will have a succesful hunt. Really examine tracks you come across and compare
how they differ. Truly fresh tracks is like someone just stepped in half frozen mud.
Clean and crisp the lines of the track will be. As they age they loose that crispness to them,
and become more rounded with the odd blade of grass, twig or leaf falling inside of them.

Those are some of the most enjoyable things I remember about learning to hunt as a young
lad was being able to connect with your surroundings. It's awesome to feel connected to
nature in such a way.

Sometimes though you do head home with nothing but a bunch of moose track soup
which isn't very appetizing. LOL!!

Its too bad Hunting is getting such a bad rap, it is an amazing sport when done responsibly.
It seems to get judged by the ones that have never really experienced the wild.

You see so much when you learn to sit quietly in the bush for hours...

I have seen Moose, Elk, Bobcat, Cougar, Mountain Goats, lots of Deer etc. close up "in their living room" not the Zoo.
My kids were raised on Moose, Deer and Buffalo not Safeway raised medicated animals that never spent time in a pasture

Hunting is strength, patience, knowledge and more...

Good eatin was it?
As Mr Scooter said, Very! when mixed with the right amounts of pork and or beef
depending on what your taste likes. I prefer 60 % bear meat to the other 40 with
a half and half pork and beef. Pork of the medium fat variety cuz remember spring
bear fresh out of hibernation is not a very fat animal and lean beef added to that.

Mustard powder and seed, sage, a touch of Thyme and chili peppers for a wee bit of zing.
OH yah, some garlic of course mixed but not to much. Smoked to perfection
Couple of fried eggs with two or more slices of that sausage and HP sauce, with a snoot
full of Irish beside it. Bushmills Blackbush please!

WONDERFUL!!!! :)

yeah....the best Camo in the world, is always defeated by the slightest amount of Stripper glitter.
At least in a full moon you might only represent a small cloud of fireflies. No problem. lol!
