I used to hunt the same way for years. My buddies and I would rent a cabin west of Williams Lake, drink, hunt in the morning, drink, bag a moose, drink some more and head back. The older I got the more respect I had for the animals I was taking and consequently dropped hunting with a gun and opted for a bow & arrow. Now I go alone, I carry everything on my back (I am down to 64lbs worth of gear) and opted to hunt Mountain Goat only. Obviously, it takes more patience and skill/luck to get within bow range (30 yards or so is where I am accurate in the field) of a goat, but it does give them more of a chance than at 500 yards with a 25-06. This year the closest I came to getting a goat, after 3 days, was about 600 yards. I had managed to get a higher position on them and they kept catching my scent and moving. Next year I am going to go after some Mountain Sheep.
