HST - unexplained price increases????

Guys, my point was that the price increases I saw on some items (especially services) that were PST-exempt and now fall under HST were around 10%, not 7% as advertised. Whether the tax is good or bad is immaterial, it is here to stay.

Some merchants are sneaking in a price increase because the calculation is difficult for many. That is sneaky.

You can avoid the price increase (by the merchants) by shopping around. That's not bitching or complaining (that's for you Hubba). It's smart shopping. If it's just a few pennies and you don't care, fine. Others have a right to know and save the few pennies.
Starbucks and Timmy's both raised their prices.....what's that got to go with HST? or any company that increased their prices for that matter? The increases were not snuck in, it was done all at once for convenience sake. Shop around for better prices all you want...there is nothing wrong with that, never said there was. Just don't give me the BS they tried to do it to be tricky.

Hubba, it may be bullshit to you, but when someone tells me that prices went up because of HST (and not because they also increased their prices), that is sneaky. I have no problem if they are honest with me. That is the point.
Hopefully, you get it dude. If not, life carries on.

PS I never go to Starbucks or Timmy's cause their proiduct is crappy, but that is another thread.

The thing i hate about the hst is these asian restaurants, some stores, businesses etc which have cash only and they also charge the hst. But we all know none of the hst goes to the govt but to the pockets of the owners of these places.

Agreed.

Campbell and Co don't care about the people, he only cares about Big business. The HST is revenue neutral to the government, but it is a $2 billion tax shift from Business (mainly big business) to consumers....and according to the Liberals, the business will pass on that savings to consumers. Where have we heard that Trickle down economics theory before? - from the right wing neo-cons.

The thing is with the asian restaurants and businesses about using cash only is that they can't be bother with all those interact and credit card machines. Isn't there something like a 2% charge for every credit card transaction?

All Campbell does is take care of his Big Business friends. How many corporate tax cuts have the Liberals made since 2001? and now with the HST?

Was told by a merchant that visa has services charges for the customers and mastercard charges the merchant a fee. The asian businesses have cash only cause they dont wanna report taxes and not cause of dealing with interac or cc charges

I'm not sure what that merchant is referring to; but for my business, I'm charged a percentage for Visa and Mastercard transactions, roughly 2%. That being said I would agree that not reporting taxes is probably a big reason why certain businesses don't take debit or credit cards as well.
