Ok so looking for advice from the guys. One of the girls has decided to take the day off tomorrow and have a personal day. We are all allowed :) (and was suggested in a post and took tonight off also) The problem is she has two pre bookings for the day. So I know everyone freaks out about random texts so how do I go about letting the person know if all I have is a cell #?

Some guys I know there is no problem texting anytime and some I don't know. Do I wait until the day of 30 min before and give the bad news then? Do I wait until they hopefully confirm with me and break the news then and for the regulars that know where we are don't confirm let them know when they arrive? (My not preferred option). A random text with just Hi? A random text that just "." A random text "Cancelled"

For me its a sticky situation. I don't want to be disrespectful by random texts or by someone making the travel to me to be sent away.

Its kinda a lose lose situation and thankfully it doesn't happen often but when it does I am at a loss.

I know there is not going to be one right answer but was wondering what the consensus would be.

Great question. I guess it depends on the person.

IMO, a quick discrete text saying saying that the appointment is canceled. Sooner the better. Allows for alternate arrangements and prevents the dreaded "travel to SP only to be sent away".

Probably not practical because it does not happen that frequently -- but can a code word or process be set up in advance for such a situation?

Anyway, just one persons opinion.

Well I wouldn't want to use a Mr....... Most don't use their real name and think would draw even more heat lol. But I like your suggestion. Maybe something generic like "This is the clinic cancelling your appointment tomorrow". But then the wife might wonder why is hubby going to the clinic???

OMG I could over analyze this to death lol.

You could deliberately address him by the wrong name, giving him plausible deniability if the wife finds it. :) "Obviously a wrong number."

I have become friends with an SP over the years and have sent emails to clients for her when she wants to cancel, usually because we're staying up late drinking or he's somebody that she doesn't care to see really and looking for an out. We call it sending a PFO (please fuck off) email. Usually throw around a few ideas until we decide on something plausible and then give the guy whatever excuse appeals to her. Always have a few laughs about it because the poor sap is getting an email or text that I write instead of her

I'll assume you he will recognize your number.....so why not just text....."Please get in touch." Nothing specific, let's him put together whatever story he wants if it has to be explained.

Suggest texting as a research firm using a name he might recognize.

Something like, 'The Riza Research Group would like you to take part in survey. Please contact us if you are interested in participating. All information is strictly confidential."

So far this suggestion is getting my vote.

I was also thinking a male spin on my name like "Hey buddy, its Reza, can't make the meeting today" but I am still liking CT suggestion :)

If all else fails and the guy shows up at your place, are you able to offer him a session with a different "therapist"?

Letting him know in advance is always best, but you might need a backup plan.

1) I agree the sooner the better on the cancel so the person can make other plans
2) It would be nice to offer an alternative practitioner or maybe a discount on a future visit.
3) The research thing is good. Hair appointment with wording that it is potentially sent to the wrong number is good too.

I like the research one because then you can ask the question like "If you booked an appointment at a <put business type here> for this date and it is cancelled would you prefer xxxxxx .

I've received a wide range of 'excuses' over the years from the very lame; my cat got sick, the over used Aunt Flow arrived early (which in her case was 3x in 6 weeks), my mom is here unexpectedly and won't leave and all I say is thanks for letting me know.

The one that sticks out in my memory was quite truthful saying "BBB, I woke up today wanting a day off and honestly don't feel like entertaining anyone. I would feel bad taking your money and not putting in my usual best effort".

She is a paid advertiser here and totally won my respect for just being honest.

Is it that difficult to just tell the truth?

Telling truth for me isn't the issue. Eve and me decided she needed some time off and to get out and enjoy herself with some personal time. That's exactly what the reason given for the cancelled appointment. The trouble is getting the message to the person without getting anyone in trouble.

Offering an alternative is ok but I don't like to be accused of bait and switch so would rather just rebook another time but you are right Lance alot, he probably wouldn't mind Becky if available.

Couldn't you dress it up like a doctor's/dentist/legit massage appt that is canceled? Sorry Mr. so and so your doctor/therapist isn't coming in today, please call in to reschedule at another time?
I agree 100%, also say something like "Hi Billy Bob this is Dr. Surfers office, we can't find your email on file, Dr Surfer is in Tofino (fall swell) so won't be in, please call to reschedule (and don't use whatever name he gave you in case "someone" sees it, he can say "my Doctor doesn't surf (in the winter)...

I would not use a Dr. text context. What Dr. everctexts you, they DON't, email always. So text him like it is a wrong number text. Hey, can't make it to the game tomorrow after all, let's take a raincheck. no name, or just use Riz, if he knows the number, he'll know.

More often now actually, Dentists, Chiropractors are texting more and more. Both mine do to remind of appointments, reminder to book an appointment, etc.

Gee, and I was just getting comfortable with the "Hey John, its Rez, (or in this case is Even) I can't make the game tomorrow" Anticipating they would recognize the number.

Personally I don't have a spouse or gf, but the best way i vote for is the wrong number route. You use doctor or dentist she will ask why its a text instead of a call or email, as well as her not knowing he had an appointment. He should be able to tell by the number. Be like, hey ali its reza it cant make it tomorrow, another time man

Expanding on CT suggestion, I think we've all gotten spam texts these days so, make your text in that format and hopefully he recognizes the number and subtext of the spam. Since its about cancelling/problem situation make it like financial or online retailer spam texts about trouble with your account that needs your immediate attention from "Paydpal" "Paypals" or some bank "Riza Island Bank" "Richmond Credit Union" or major online retailers like Amazon or iTunes. If you ever read these spam texts bad spelling and grammar should be used and do not use texting shorthand.
